    7 Years in Tibet

7 Years in Tibet tells the story of a daring escape from a British prison camp and the hardships of a journey into the Tibetan interior. Heinrich Harrer, a fugitive from the law, travels across the barren plains and high mountain passes of Tibet with one goal in mind, to reach the forbidden city of Lahsa. This is because he cannot be arrested in Lahsa. One Heinrich reaches Lahsa he meets many people, and also becomes a friend of the Dalai Lama. Heinrich spends hours talking to the Dalai Lama and teaching him about things in the outside world. Heinrich resides in Lahsa until Word War two is over. Once he is safe from capture he returs to his home in Austria.

    more from this reviewer

    finally read this and wow!

What an amazing story! I sometimes question the authenticity of this story since the hardships portrayed seem like no-win situations. Either way, what a great adventure novel and imagine escaping from a war prison and end up meeting the Incarnation of Buddha! Nuts!

    Enlightening

This book covers a life that no longer exists in Tibet since it was taken over by China. Excellently written view into the past.

    Perfectly Wonderful

Seven Years In Tibet is a marvelous book depicting the struggles of Heinrich Harrer and how he finally reached the Forbidden City of Lhasa. It was amazing to read how different Tibet was from the rest of the world and how it was able to retain such mystery and uniqueness. What makes it better is: it is a true story!

One of the BEST books I've ever read!

I read this this novel for my 5-themes novel project and it was great. This novel is about the country of Tibet durring and after World War Two until the chineese invation in 1952. The story also describes the lifestyle of the Tibetian people durring that time and their complex, Buddist faith. I highly recomend this book to everyone.
