I am a third year graduate
student in the Computer Sciences department
at the University
of Wisconsin. I have just finished my second year of
graduate studies. For my undergraduate education, I attended the University
of Michigan, where I obtained a B.S. in Computer Science
in addition to a minor in Biology
on May 1, 2004. I am primarily interested in research dealing with the
application of computational techniques to the handling of data in the
areas of biology and medicine. I am entering the second year of my CIBM
fellowship. I am currently working with Frank Dimaio and
Prof. Jude Shavlik
on the use of Machine Learning in interpreting electron density maps
for protein structure prediction.
I have 2 siblings. My twin
brother, Ankoor,
attends medical school at Michigan State University,
where he also completed his undergraduate degree. My old sister, Asha,
obtained a Bachelors in Psychology and Social Work as well as a Masters
of Social Work at Wayne State University.
My father, Bharat Soni, works for Ford Motor Co. as a
Lab Development Analyst and obtained his Masters in Polymer Chemistry
from Depaul University. My mother, Sharmistha Soni, works for Dr.
Quarishi's Family Dental as an accountant/receptionist and obtained her
Associates Degree from the Detroit College of Business, now known as Davenport
University.
Last summer, I proposed to my
girlfriend of over five years, Karen Pfeiffer. Much to my liking, she
said yes on the spot and we became officially engaged on her birthday,
June 25 of 2005. Our wedding date is set for August 5, 2006. Karen and I met in high school in 9th
grade. Despite having shared many classes and even being on the same 5
person volleyball team in gym class, we did not become good friends
until senior year of high school. Almost two years later, we started
dating on March 9, 2001. Karen attended Michigan State University where she obtained a degree in Interior Design. She
currently works for the architectural firm, Albert Kahn Associates,
in Detroit, MI.
