Hawaii Project Development Tools and Information

Microsoft Research's Hawaii Project involves building both web applications/services and mobile applications. While there are many platforms available for each of these, we have choosen to use either Windows Azure or IIS as the web application server and Windows Mobile 6.5 as the mobile platform. Whenever possible, we are also using the C# language and the .NET framework instead of native code. Our development environment and tool choices reflect these platform choices.

A note about availability: Many Colleges and Universities have programs whereby they (or their CS department) have a standing agreement with Microsoft for providing their students with free-of-charge access to Microsoft development tools via MSDN (Microsoft Developer Network). If your school isn't one of these, many of these tools are also available free-of-charge to students via Microsoft DreamSpark.
