Projects

The goal for the project in this course is twofold: to learn about distributed systems and to learn about how to implement distributed systems.

There are few options for projects:

  1. Traditional novel research project. The goal is to learn something new or design something new.
  2. Distributed system implementation project, targeting performance and reliability. The goal is to learn implementation techniques.

In each case, you will work in teams for 2-4 students on a project. There will be two projects, one focused on classical distributed system problems and one on cloud computing.

Distributed Systems Programming

The focus of this project will be to solve a distributed system problems, such as:

  • Consensus
  • Replication
  • Authentication
  • Load balancing

Cloud Computing

The focus of this project will be to build a scalable application using cloud computing technology. This is a group project, due the last week of classes.
