Vietnam now has about 240,000 PCs, including 80,000-120,000 in HCMC
alone.

Government granted first licenses for two bodyguard firms in Hanoi
and HCMC.

The Prime Minister has authorized continued investment in the
project to upgrade National Highway 14 which links the Central
Highlands and the southern provinces, from Chon Thanh to Dong Xoai
in Bi nh Phuoc Province.

In the fiscal year 1997, the South Korean government will fund
US$500,000 for a polyclinic in Duc Pho District in the central
province of Quang Ngai.

The Ministry of Communications and Transport has approved the
project to upgrade Di An-Loc Ninh railway route with a total length
of 112 kilometers.

Daso Detergent Company has been permitted to export 8,000 tons of
powdered detergents worth US$5.25 million to Iraq, said a source
from the Ministry of Trade. 

The Kien Giang Service of Communications and Transport and Sao Mai
Cement Company are constructing a 10-km road leading to the
industrial park and Binh An Tourist Center in Ha Tien District. The
co nstruction is expected to require some VND14.2 billion.

This year, the central province of Quang Nam plans to cultivate an
additional 10,000 hectares of forest.
