Vietnam to Send More Workers Abroad
HANOI (Aug. 6) XINHUA - Vietnam is expected to have an estimated 25,000
workers employed abroad this year thanks to a positive influence on the
country's labor export industry by the regional economic recovery, press
reports Friday quoted Vietnam's labor authority as saying.
Vietnam's Department for the Management of Overseas Workers (DMOW) said
about 8,000 workers were sent to work overseas in the first half of this
year, with traditional markets such as south Korea, Japan and Libya
receiving the greatest numbers.
DMOW predicted that the number of export workers is expected to increase
steadily in the near future.
There are 71 labor export agencies operating throughout Vietnam, according
to DMOW statistics.
Since 1997, south Korea and Japan have limited the number of Vietnamese
workers due to economic problems in both countries. Now the two countries'
economy is recovering, and it is expected that more foreign workers will be
needed.
To fulfill this year's target to export 20,000-25,000 workers, Vietnam's
Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs has ordered labor export
agencies to try to develop the existing markets in Japan, Laos and Libya,
while seeking new markets in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and Latin
America.
