VNA(TTXVN):VIET NAM TO WORK 40 HOURS A WEEK

VIET NAM TO WORK 40 HOURS A WEEK

Ha Noi, Aug. 23 (VNA) -- Ministries,
ministerial-level agencies, provincial and
municipal People's Committees will have to work out
plans for a 40-hour working
week and submit them to the Prime Minister next month.

This was announced in an official dispatch sent by
the Government to relevant
                agencies on Aug. 20, 1999.

Ministries, localities and units are required to
re-arrange their organizational
structure, staffs and working style to ensure labour
discipline and fulfil their tasks
without increasing staff members and the salary fund.

The dispatch also requests those public agencies
which have to work 24 hours a
day to devise concrete and proper plans to fulfil their
duties.

The Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social
Affairs should present its plan at
the Government's meeting later this month. The ministry
should coordinate with the
Government's Organization and Personnel Board and
relevant ministries to draft a
decision on this issue and present it to the Prime
Minister for approval.

Public agencies in Viet Nam currently work 48 hours
a week.--VNA
