DPRK, U.S.  to Hold Talks on Lifting Sanctions

PYONGYANG, August 28 (Xinhua) -- Senior representatives of the
Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and the United States will
meet on September 7 in Berlin to discuss the lifting of U.S.  sanctions
against the DPRK and other pending issues, the official Korean Central
News Agency reported Saturday.  The two delegations, headed by DPRK
Deputy Foreign Minister Kim Gye-Kwan and U.S.  special envoy Charles
Kartman respectively, are expected to discuss "the lifting of U.S. 
economic sanctions against Pyongyang and some other outstanding issues
of common concern," said the news agency.  The forthcoming meeting was
agreed upon by the two sides in talks in early August in Geneva.  The
five-day sixth round of talks involving the DPRK, South Korea, China and
the United States closed on August 13 in Geneva with a joint statement
which said only the next round should be held "as quickly as possible."
Five previous sessions made little headway.  Enditem
