Trivia

The driver openly disdains the use of firearms but he is ultimately a pragmatic man and when the need arises he defends himself with a 45 caliber Wild West era Colt Peacemaker. Although an antiquated weapon for the 1970s, this is in keeping with his cowboy loaner persona. See more »

Goofs

The three-slot payphone which the Driver uses in the hotel does not make its characteristic "ding-ding" when he inserts the coin. See more »

Quotes

Glasses: [pulls a gun on The Driver] Can't get over the mistake you made. You've been set up, you know.
The Driver: By a cop.
Glasses: That's right. He's waiting for you right now at the wrong place. Me and my buddy don't wanna show up. You two hot-shots have both been set up, haven't you? You know what always amazed me about you? A guy with your attitude - never carries a gun. That's stupid... very stupid.
[the Driver suddenly whips out his own gun and shoots Glasses dead]

All time classic - but not for everybody.
3 October 1999 | by (Southampton, UK) – See all my reviews

This is a thinking mans movie, which dare I say is why it seems to have a low rating! (at least far lower than I expected). If you watch this just for the car chases, then may I suggest you go and watch The Blues Brothers. The car chases in this film are simply the icing on the cake. Watch it for the characters, their lives, the atmosphere. All time classic.
