Some Basic Info | My Music | My Movies | My Life in Madison | My Future. |
My name is Adam Morstad. I was born in Watertown, Wisconsin--a mere 45 min. drive from Madison. (I did it once in 36, but I wouldn't recommend that anyone else try that.) When not in school, I live at home with my parents and my twin sisters, Katie and Carrie. My parents were high-school sweethearts and have been married for 25 years. Katie and Carrie are 17 years old and are looking to go to college somewhere in Wisconsin.
I like jazz music. I've played the drums for 5 years, the saxophone for 10 years, and the piano for about 14 years. My favorite artists are Oscar Peterson, Sonny Rollins, and Arturo Sandoval. I love playing in both small jazz combos and larger bands. In high school I won 4 soloist awards at various Jazz Competitions and was the runner-up for the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award given to the student who has been the most musically influential to others interested in jazz.
Here is a table of my favorite jazz artists by instrument:
INSTRUMENT | ARTIST |
---|---|
Piano | Oscar Peterson |
Saxophone | Sonny Rollins |
Trumpet | Dizzy Gillespie |
Trombone | J.J. Johnson |
Guitar | Wes Montgomery |
Bass | Thelonius Monk |
Drums | Buddy Rich |

I live on Randall Ave. in Madison with 7 other male friends. 8 people in a house with 2 bathrooms is definitely an experience that I will always remember. I am a Math major here at the University and I expect to also receive my Technical Communication Certificate from the college of Engineering. When my friends and I aren't studying, we hang out in our loft and watch DVD's on a killer entertainment system. On Mondays, we go across the street to sing Karaoke at the Stadium Bar & Grill. We also play in a sand volleyball league there.
I work in the IT sector. I have an Internship in Watertown, Wisconsin at a telecommunications consulting firm called MIS Labs, Inc. I help engineers to design computer networks, design telephone systems, and test new technology in a lab environment. Among these tasks, I am also in charge of keeping their website in shape. I also work here in Madison for the Internet Scout Project, a research project that, among other things, surfs the web "professionally" to produce reports on credible information on the World Wide Web. Visit their link at http://scout.cs.wisc.edu.
I hope to get a job in the computer industry, but have no ambition to be come a washed-up "dot com-er." If I cannot build a career similar to the jobs that I hold now, I can always teach high-school mathematics.
