Profile:

As the son of former Australian wicketkeeping icon, Rodney, it should probably come as no surprise that Daniel Marsh is a combative and iron-willed cricketer. Also nearly as ruggedly built, this Marsh is an excellent middle order batsman, a slow left arm orthodox spin bowler (with an easy, economical action and an ability to effectively vary his flight), and brilliant slips fieldsman. He first entered interstate ranks as a 20-year-old and has made steady improvement ever since, particularly from the time that he moved to Tasmania from South Australia prior to the 1996-97 season. Marsh started his interstate career as a number eight batsman but has rapidly moved up the order, and generally fills a spot at either number four or five for Tasmania. He is a powerful striker of the ball and can occupy the crease for long periods - as was perhaps best shown during the 1999-2000 season, when he notched three first-class centuries on the way to winning Tasmania's Player of the Year award. Marsh's talents have also been seen on a wider stage, most notably in his attainment of Man-of-the-Match honours for the Prime Minister's XI in its encounter against England in Canberra in 1998-99. Before he sustained a fractured cheekbone halfway through the season, he was also a standout performer as Leicestershire's overseas professional in English county competition in 2001.
