Profile:
Many people thought that Chris Cowdrey's appointment as England captain
in 1988 had more to do with his father Colin's reputation and the fact
that the chairman of selectors Peter May was his godfather than any
talents of his own. Sadly, he never got the chance to prove them wrong
as he was injured after one game and was never selected again. An
allrounder in county cricket, neither his batting nor his bowling were
of international class, though he played his part in England's
successful tour of India in 1984-85.
