Profile:[2000-01 Season] Geoff Allott was a revelation at the ICC Cricket World Cup in England last May/June. With 20 wickets in nine matches he equalled the record for most wickets taken at a World Cup, each wicket costing just 16.25 runs. Gaining prodigious movement in the air and off the pitch, the left-armer deceived some of the world's best batsmen and made a huge contribution towards New Zealand's semi-final finish. The performance earned him the 1999/00 Walter Hadlee Trophy for ODI Bowling. Allott has suffered from a series of back injuries and was forced to entirely rebuild his bowling action in 1998. After the World Cup he missed the winter tour to India, and all of last summer with stress fractures. However Allott appears to have fought his way back to fitness and was selected for the Singapore one-day tournament and the tour of Zimbabwe. An extremely popular and committed cricketer, New Zealand supporters would relish seeing Allott fit and firing this summer. |
