Profile:[2000/01 Season] Chris Nevin was called into the CLEAR Black Caps for the final two ODIs of last summer against Australia. The selection was as much a reflection of Adam Parore's poor form as it was of Nevin's claim for a place. However the diminutive Wellington wicket-keeper took full advantage. In the final match he stepped up to open the innings after a series of top order collapses. Nevin showed his class and determination against the best new-ball attack in world cricket and hit 74 runs, anchoring the New Zealand innings and ultimately setting the platform for a consolation victory. The performance earned Nevin a place in the ODI side during the winter, but an injury sustained in the first ODI against Zimbabwe saw Parore reclaim the stumps. Nevin played as a specialist batsman in the six ODIs against South Africa but averaged only 18.40. He did not play against Zimbabwe due to a re-occurrence of his groin injury. |
