Profile:A stylish and fluent strokemaker with a particular liking for the pull, hook, cut and cover drive, Greg Blewett has established a reputation for himself as one of Australia's most reliable and consistent batsmen. While capable of batting at any spot in the order, he is generally used as an opener or number three and brings to those roles a calm and assured presence. A player who can be said to have made the most of his opportunities and to have worked hard to overcome his weaknesses - chief among them an apparent susceptibility in his early Test matches to quality spin bowling - Blewett has already achieved a number of notable distinctions during his career. He scored centuries in each of his first two Tests (joining Bill Ponsford and Doug Walters as the only Australians ever to do so); was involved with Steve Waugh in amassing one of the all-time highest partnerships in Test history (in combining to add 385 in Johannesburg in 1997); and even accomplished the rare feat of compiling two scores of 99 in Tests in the one calendar year! Moreover, whilst he has yet to establish himself as an entirely permanent fixture in either the Australian Test or ODI team, he has become widely recognised as a steely and dependable player whose capacity to play both defensive and attacking innings has made him one of the stars of Australian domestic cricket over recent summers. In addition to his abilities with the bat, Blewett is an excellent fieldsman and a more than handy medium pace bowler. He is the son of former South Australian captain, Bob Blewett.
