Profile:

A stylish left handed batsman, PE Palia toured England both in 1932 and 1936. He played without distinction in the two Tests at Lord's four years apart. He had a modest first tour, scoring 476 runs (21.63) and picking up 24 wickets (31.00) with his slow bowling. His best score in the Ranji Trophy competition was 216 for United Provinces against Maharashtra in 1939-40. In the National competition, he scored over 1500 runs at an average approaching 40.

Earlier, Palia played a prominent role for the Parsees in the Bombay Quadrangular tournament. In a first class career that spanned a quarter century, Palia scored almost 4500 runs at an average of 32 with eight centuries and took more than 200 wickets.(Partab Ramchand)
