Profile:

For many years this sound competent wicket-keeper was George Duckworth's back-up for Lancashire, and was good enough to be selected for England for 4 Tests, even when not Lancashire's first choice. A good batsman in the middle order, he would have played far more first-class cricket if qualified for another county. After Duckworth's retirement he became the first choice for his county, only to have his career ended by World War Two (Dave Liverman, 1998).
