Profile:
One of the most consistent and reliable batsman on the county
circuit, Chris Adams raised some eyebrows when he moved from his
native Derbyshire to Sussex, becoming one of the best paid
home-grown players in England in the process. A forthright and
agressive middle-order bat, he excels at the one-day game, and
can contribute some useful overs when required. He debuted for
Derby in 1988, but moved after 10 years with the club to Sussex
where he took over the captaincy. He was tried in the England
one-day team in 1998, but was discarded after failing to impress.
A solid 1999 domestic season earned him a place in the full
England squad for the tour of South Africa, after Thorpe
withdrew, and the selectors chose to rest Ramprakash. (DL, Sep
1999)
