Profile:[2000/01 Season] At a time when the New Zealand top order has proved to be notoriously inconsistent, Matt Horne has enjoyed the most favour with selectors. Unfortunately he has suffered two separate breaks to bones in his hands and has missed much of the past year. He played one Test against the West Indies last summer and was then unavailable until the three Australian Tests when he returned to open but found runs difficult to make. He retained his place for the winter tour to Zimbabwe and South Africa but was again struck on the hand and forced home after playing the first Test of the tour. The selectors retained faith for the first National Bank Test of this summer against Zimbabwe but Horne was unable to find his form. On his day Matt Horne is a stylish and positive strokemaker, quick between the wickets and agile in the field. His Test record stands at 29 matches for a batting average of 30.92, while he has played 44 ODIs averaging 20.00. |
