Profile:

A Wollongong junior, Anthony McQuire ventured to Canberra in time for the 1998/99 after his further representative career was blocked with New South Wales with many other batsmen ahead of him. He is an opening batsman who can bat in the middle order when needed. He is also able to keep wickets and he has done this with the ACT at the Australian Country Championships in Barooga. McQuire played for the NSW Under 17 side and the NSW Under 19 side at national championships and has been selected for Australia at Under 17 and Under 19 levels as well. In 1992, McQuire became an Australian Cricket Academy scholarship holder and he toured Sri Lanka with the Academy side in 1992. He was also a member of the New South Wales Sheffield Shield squad in 1996/97 where he played several Second XI matches. With his prospects blocked at a higher level, McQuire moved to Canberra and became a member of the Canberra Comets squad in 1998/99. He played ten matches for the ACT during the season as well as playing in the Australian Country Championships. McQuire plays for the Australian National University side in the ACTCA grade competition where he is the vice-captain. In Sydney, McQuire played for Western Suburbs club from 1991 to 1996, and for St George from 1996 to 1998. (Adam Morehouse, November 1999)
