Profile:
For many years this sound competent wicket-keeper was George
Duckworth's back-up for Lancashire, and was good enough to be
selected for England for 4 Tests, even when not Lancashire's
first choice. A good batsman in the middle order, he would have
played far more first-class cricket if qualified for another
county. After Duckworth's retirement he became the first choice
for his county, only to have his career ended by World War Two
(Dave Liverman, 1998).
