StatsGuru Filters for Steve CamachoArticles about Steve CamachoProfile:Steve Camacho came from a solid cricketing background (his grandfather, GC Learmond, played first class cricket for Barbados and Trinidad). He made an immediate impact on debut for Guyana with a century in his first Shell Shield innings, and two years later earned a place in the West Indies Test side. His sound, defensive style made him a good choice to open the innings, and a useful contrast to the more flamboyant stroke makers in the West Indies side in the late 60s. He played 11 Tests, but never really established his place in the side, despite topping the batting averages on the 1969 England tour. A poor series against India in 1970-71 signaled the end of his Test career. After retirement in 1979, he embarked on a long and distinguished career serving West Indies cricket, first as a selector, and Secretary and later chief executive of the WIBC.
