Profile:
"Tom" Dollery, WarwickshireÕs first professional captain, and a
forceful batsman with a wide range of strokes. He represented
his native Berkshire at 15, then Warwickshire at twenty. He was
very consistent, and perhaps unlucky to represent England only a
handful of times (the competition for batting places being stiff
in the early fifties). His great achievement was to mould a
Warwickshire team containing no stars of regular Test players
into a strong group of performers, fielding superbly, and
showing remarkable teamwork. He led them to their first
championship for forty years in 1951. After retiring he became
the county coach (Dave Liverman, 1998).
