Profile:

Crookes, whose father Norman toured England with the South African team of 1965 without playing in a Test, followed in his father's footsteps as a capable off-spin bowler. He captained SA Schools in 1988. Although his spin bowling has not developed to its full potential, Crookes has become a successful batsman, scoring quickly and consistently. He averaged more than 60 in the 1994/95 and 1995/96 seasons and continued this good form by finishing second in the batting averages on the South African "A" tour of England in 1996, scoring 566 runs at an average of 56.60. In limited overs terms his batting and bowling ability allied to excellent fielding skills make him a fine all rounder. He made his international debut during the one day tournament in Pakistan in 1994/95 and was in the side which won the Sharjah Cup at the end of the 1995/96 season, being selected to play in the final.
