Profile:

Bill Copson, a fine fast-medium bowler for Derbyshire was unfortunate to lose what might have been his best years to the 2nd World War. Taking nine wickets on his debut against the West Indies in 1939, he did not play test cricket again until three Tests against South Africa in 1947. He had the ability to bring the ball into the batsman with his natural break-back, and to bowl a delivery that angled away off the pitch, all from a fairly low arm action. He took a wicket with his first ball in first-class cricket, that of Andy Sandham, in 1932. After retirement he became a first-class umpire (Dave Liverman, 1998).
