Profile:
An all rounder who was a Hampshire stalwart for years, George
Brown was an excellent bat (37 first class hundreds), and a top
class wicket-keeper. He was also an effective medium pace bowler
(over 600 wickets), and a superb close fielder. He batted
left-handed, but bowled with his right. He was picked for
England as a wicket-keeper, and played against Australia as well
as touring South Africa. A man of considerable character, his
ashes are scattered over the County ground in Southampton (Dave
Liverman, 1998).
