Articles about Keith Fletcher
Profile:
An accomplished batsman, and effective county captain, later an
embattled England team manager, Keith Fletcher (nicknamed "The
Gnome") has been at the centre of England cricket for 3 decades.
At his best, he was a fluent stroke-maker, an excellent cover
driver, and a powerful square-cutter. He often curtailed his
strokes, especially at the Test level, and many of his more
important innings were played mostly in a defensive style. He
captained England on a losing tour of India, but was much more
successful skippering his county, Essex. He was a good fielder in
the slips, and on occasion would display his leg breaks,
capturing two Test wickets (Dave Liverman, 1998).
