Profile:
Gyanendra Pandey made his international debut during the the Pepsi Cup
in India in 1998-99. A left arm spinner and a useful lower order
batsman, he failed to impress the selectors at the highest level when
given the chance. In his very first outing against Pakistan he gave
away 35 runs in his quota of 10 overs and got a duck. After another
dismal match against Pakistan in the same tournament, he was
discarded. Pandey however has been a regular member in the Uttar
Pradesh Ranji Trophy team throughout the 90s. But he started making a
mark only from the 1996-97 season. That year, Pandey aggregated 445
runs and in the following season scored 471 runs. This consistent run
brought him into national reckoning. In the 1999-2000 Ranji season,
Pandey aggregated 375 runs and bagged 29 wickets. (Natarajan
