Profile:[2000-01 Season] Matthew Bell's international debut two seasons ago was marred by illness. A virus contracted during the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia pre-season caused recurring stomach cramps during his debut series against India. It was not a happy time for Bell who averaged less than double figures and he was unavailable for much of the remainder of the summer. He missed out on selection for the 1999 World Cup but joined the CLEAR Black Caps in England for the Test series where he again showed his potential, averaging 37.75 in three Tests. He was retained for the India tour but was not selected for the West Indies or Australia series. |
