Profile:
In a little under two years, Rahul Sanghvi played in ten ODIs. He
did reasonably well too, and his best bowling figures were notched
up against Zimbabwe in the tri series in India in 1998. One also recalls
how he kept the run hungry Australian batsman on a leash in the Coca Cola
Cup final at Sharjah the same year. Then as
suddenly as he made it to the national side, he was dropped and promptly
forgotten for more than two years. However, the left
arm spinner from Delhi has always adopted a never say die approach.
A string of notable performances for Delhi and North Zone saw him
back in contention for the India cap when he was picked among the
25 probables for the series against Australia.
An orthodox spinner of the ball, Sanghvi has come up through the
ranks having toured England in 1994 with the Indian Under-19 side.
He was particularly impressive in the Duleep Trophy this season when
on batsman friendly pitches, he picked up a number of wickets to
play a notable part in North Zone's triumph. Sanghvi, who learnt
the finer points of the art from Bishen Singh Bedi, has all the attributes
- line, length, control of turn and flight and enough
variety - to command a regular place in the national side. (Partab Ramchand)
