Profile:

A tall and well-built right handed batsman, Michael Dighton accepted an offer to move to Tasmania in the lead-up to the 2001-02 domestic season. That was after a comparatively frustrating start to his career in Western Australia, where a series of excellent grade performances with Scarborough were not enough to guarantee him a permanent spot in a strong Warriors batting line-up. He had also previously been Western Australia's under-17 and under-19 captain, and was an inductee of the Australian Cricket Academy in 1996. An elegant player who seemingly has a glut of time to select and craft his shots, Dighton proceeded to make a favourable impression after a slow start upon his move south, ultimately securing a regular niche at number three as the Tigers embarked on an all-conquering run into the Pura Cup Final of 2001-02. Also a sound exponent of the cut, pull and hook, Dighton has particularly impressed in Tasmania with the quality of his driving down the ground from the front foot. With skills as a wicketkeeper and leg spin bowler to add to his ability to bat at most spots in the order, he will continue in the years ahead to offer the Tigers a level of versatility that is hard to match.
