Profile:

[1998-99 season] Llorne Howell is the newest arrival in the New Zealand one day side. His debut selection came in the Bank of New Zealand series v Zimbabwe last summer. He marked his arrival with four half-centuries and an average of 30 across the nine One-Day Internationals he played. Howell likes to dominate the bowling and has a reputation for lifting the ball out of the park. Teamed with Nathan Astle, he has ensured a fiery start to New Zealand's innings. He has an opportunity to cement a permanent place as a one day opener if a persistent shoulder injury does not keep him out of action. Howell is not seen as a Test prospect.
