Profile:
These days there is a lot of talk about cricketers who do
well around the domestic circuit and force their way into
the national side only to fail in international cricket. KC
Ibrahim was perhaps a pioneer in this aspect. A sound opening
batsman with a prolific record in the Ranji Trophy tournament,
Ibrahim found big scores hard to come by in Test cricket. The
selectors picked him for the Test matches against West Indies
in 1948-49 based largely on his performances in the national competition, and specifically on his showing in the 1947-48
season. In four matches (seven innings) Ibrahim scored 606
runs and forced his way into the Indian team. He started his
Test career well, scoring 85 and 44 on his debut at New Delhi
but found run getting difficult in the three other Tests.
That series remained Ibrahim's only international experience but
in first class cricket he continued to amass runs. By the time
he quit the scene in 1950 he had scored 4716 runs (61.24)
including 14 centuries. In the Ranji Trophy alone he scored
2329 runs (66.50). (Partab Ramchand)
