Profile:
Playing only one Test, during which he chipped a finger, Dennis
Brookes was NorthamptonshireŐs first professional captain, and a
consistent accumulator of runs in county cricket. He made 71
centuries, including one against each of the other counties. He
was an excellent outfielder in his younger days, but mostly was
found closer to the wicket in later years. He captained the
Players against the Gentlemen at LordŐs in 1959, and after
retirement was the county coach, and later a Justice of the
Peace (Dave Liverman, 1998).
