Profile:

A player with an atypical cricketing pedigree, Steve Nikitaras is a left arm pace bowler currently based in Western Australia. The son of Greek parents, Nikitaras only seriously took up cricket when he was nineteen. But he showed enough natural promise to win a spot in a combined team from the Wollongong district almost immediately and was then able, during the twelve months which followed, to improve his game sufficiently to make a seamless transition to the ranks of Sydney grade cricket as well. Within three years, he was a part of the New South Wales squad, and a debut at interstate level beckoned in 1996-97. Appearances have been relatively restricted in the years since, and he even moved to Western Australia in 1998-99 in a bid to play further representative cricket. Similarly fierce competition for spots has meant that he has gained no more than an occasional berth with the Warriors, but he remains highly rated by many fine judges in Perth. A bowler who possesses a solid work ethic; an economical action; the ability to extract significant pace and bounce; and who adds to his natural custom of slanting the ball across right handers the capacity to move deliveries back the other way, he certainly possesses most of the pre-requisites for success.
