Articles about Herbert Sutcliffe
Profile:
Hubert Sutcliffe played for Yorkshire and England mainly between the wars. One
of three great Yorkshire opening batsmen who acheived 100 hundreds, he formed a
notable opening partnership with Jack Hobbs for England. His strongest attacking
shot was probably the hook (along the ground), but he had no weaknesses either
in attack or defence, and was a great player on poor wickets. He was known for
his smart appearance, always immaculately turned out. He was not known for his
bowling, but was a competent fielder- usually outfield. (David Liverman, Jan
1998)
