[2000/01 Season] Roger Twose had an outstanding 1999 World Cup, heading New Zealand's batting averages with 79.50 across the tournament. The Wellington batsman has since concentrated solely on the one-day game and is considered a one-day specialist. He went to India for the ODI leg of the tour where he was New Zealand's second most successful batsman, averaging 37.00 and against the West Indies averaged 57 including two 50s. He continued his outstanding form against the world champion Australians, averaging 41.75. He completed the year ranked No 2 in the world for ODI batting. On the winter tour of Zimbabwe he averaged 98.50 including three fifties, while in South Africa he was the pick of the Kiwi batsmen, averaging 57.40 including one century and one fifty.
