Profile:
Bombay`s pace bowler Ankola made his debut for India on the
1989-90 tour of Pakistan. Since then he has found himself unable
to command a regular first team place, but over a year since his
last international appearance, after which he was somewhat
surprisingly dropped, he has been recalled for the World Cup
1996. He has improved considerably after being dropped from the
team, having eliminated his past tendency to spray the ball
around, and performed exceedingly well in the Interface Cup in
Sharjah for the `A` teams in December 1995. Capable of working
up a fair pace, and generating significant lift off the pitch, he
has a chance to etch his name in as Srinath`s future new ball
partner. Ankola is no slouch with the bat either, as he proved
with his penultimate-ball 6 heroics in Sharjah recently, and his
presence should strengthen India`s hand in the "slog overs."
