StatsGuru Filters for Jack FingletonStatistics involving Jack FingletonProfile:Jack Fingleton never managed to cement his place in the Australian side for he had to compete with the likes of Bradman, Ponsford, McCabe and Woodfull for a place. He was a fine consistent opening batsman in his own right if not quite in the same mould as his more illustrious compatriots. He enjoyed a very successful tour of South Africa in 1935-36 wherein he made 4 Test centuries in consecutive innings, a feat equalled by Melville of South Africa and only bettered by Weekes of the West Indies. He had problems against the fastest of bowling, and had a miserable experience of bodyline in 1932-33. An admirer, but not a fan of Bradman, their mutual dislike probably shortened his Test career. A journalist by profession who wrote regularly whilst playing, he continued after retirement, with numerous books and articles, as well as radio commentary and broadcast. (Ashok Sridharan |
