Profile:[2000/01 Season] Chris Martin made his debut on the winter tour to South Africa. He was called into the CLEAR Black Caps after injury to a handful of other quick bowlers but took his opportunity by taking 11 wickets at 26.00 across the three-Test series - the best performance by a New Zealand bowler. He was retained by the selectors for The National Bank Series against Zimbabwe and was the pick of the bowlers in the Boxing Day Test, taking 5-71 in the first innings. His lean and wiry build belies his ability to hit the deck hard, extracting any life the pitch has to offer. Martin had completed a year at the New Zealand Cricket Academy and toured Australia (3 times) and India with the Academy prior to his call-up. |
