Profile:
Alan butcher, father of test player Mark, and first class player Gary, is a
left-handed opening bat, strong off the back foot, and all round the wicket.
A fixture in the Surrey side for years, he later moved to Glamorgan, and consistently accumulated runs. He bowls left arm, both pace and spin, but not well enough to command a regular spot. After retirement he became a coach, and made a suprising re-appearance in first-class cricket, being drafted into the first team as a late replacement, 6 years after his last first-class game.
