Profile:
When he was a student of BKSP, the cricket experts saw a future captain in him who would guide the National side. It came true when Naimur took over the responsibility for the first time in 2000. Since his ODI debut in 1995, Naimur served as a batting all rounder for his country. Usually he bats at number six and bowls right arm off spin.
In World Cup 99, when most of the specialist batsmen were struggling for runs - Naimur appeared as an exception. He was getting runs at good rate at position six and saved his team for several occasions. His natural stroke play captivated the legendary Viv Richards.
Naimur Rahman is the fortunate man in the history of Bangladesh cricket to guide his side in their maiden Test against India. As a batsman he could not show up. He pulled off as a bowler to grab 6 wickets and ranked his name in the record book.
May be the burden of captaincy had affected his batting a bit - he was unsuccessful in Zimbabwe too. He got 32 in the second innings of the second Test, which was his highest in the tour.
