Profile:
At a brisk medium pace, Chowdhury should have relished conditions in
England, but though he toured the country with the Indian team in
1952, he was not a success. He took only 24 wickets (31.00) and did
not make the Test team. His two Tests were confined to home
appearances against West Indies in 1948-49 and England three years
later. His lone wicket in Tests was that of Jeff Stollmeyer whom he
had caught by Probir Sen after the batsman had made 160. He played
with modest success against the first and second Commonwealth
teams. In a first class career that stretched nearly 20 years,
Chowdhury took 200 wickets (25.15).(Partab Ramchand)
