later a highly respected umpire, Arthur Dolphin played for
England only once, perhaps unfortunate to be the contemporary of
Strudwick, Brown, and Smith. Keeping reliably to fast bowling or
spin, he was part of eight championship winning sides (Dave
Liverman, 1998).
