Profile:

A rather burly right arm medium pace bowler who could bowl off breaks if the situation warranted and a useful tailend batsman, `Buck' Divecha was a familiar figure in England. Not only did he play in the Lancashire league, he also represented Northamptonshire against Australia in 1948. As luck would have it his only tour with an Indian team was to England in 1952. He had a fair measure of success in the first class games, taking 50 wickets (25.88). He played in two Tests and in the first of these bowled 45 overs in blustery conditions to bag three wickets - Hutton and Graveney among them - for 102 runs. In the next Test he had another long bowl of 33 overs and took David Sheppard's wicket for 60 runs.

Divecha had earlier played in two Tests against England in 1951-52. On his debut he took two wickets in each innings and scored 26 at No 9. He was also a member of the Indian team that scored its first Test win at Madras in 1952. In the Test against Pakistan at Madras in 1952-53 - which proved to be his last game - Divecha picked up the wickets of Hanif and Imtiaz. An Oxford University `Blue' in 1951, Divecha played for Bombay for many years and during a first class career that stretched 17 years, picked up 217 wickets (24.88). (Partab Ramchand)
