Profile:
Possibly the finest opening batsman Bangladesh has ever seen, Mehrab Hussain has quickly turned into an essential part of Bangladesh Squad. Mehrab's first success came when he scored 73 against Zimbabwe. Four days later, his name was listed as the first Bangladeshi to score an ODI century (101 against Zimbabwe).
He was one of the few Bangladeshi batsmen who showed good form in World Cup 1999. He also shares the record of the highest opening partnership with Shahriar Hussain for Bangladesh.
Mehrab Hussain has struggled a lot with his recurring injuries. This kept him off the field for months. Though he played the inaugural Test, he was not successful. Besides, new talents were flourishing which was a threat to the position he used to bat.
So he needed to prove himself in the Zimbabwe Tour. He was little known as an occasional wicket keeper that helped him in the first Test in Bulawayo. He had to wear keeping gloves when Khaled Masud got a severe injury and eventually taken off the field for the rest of the series.
Mehrab made a good mark with his bat in the first innings of the second Test at Harare. He stayed at the crease for a good number of hours to make 71. In this Test he acted as a makeshift wicket keeper too.
