Profile:

Adam Hollioake though born in Australia first played cricket in Hong Kong but developed his game at school in England. He was introduced to the England side for the ODIs v Pakistan in 1996 where he enjoyed considerable success with the ball. In the ODIs v Australia in 1997 he hit the winning runs in each game and contributed usefully with both bat and ball. A forceful middle order batsman and medium pace bowler with well disguised changes of pace he regularly takes wickets in one day cricket though more rarely in the proper game. After success as captain of the England A side and a more mixed 1997 season as Surrey captain he was picked to captain the England one day side for Sharjah when Mike Atherton declared his unavailability. A win at Sharjah led to his selection for the tour of the West Indies, where he was unable to establish a test place, and after winning 5 ODIS in a row as captain, saw his one-day side go down to heavy defeat. He was appointed captain of the England one day side to face South Africa in the Texaco Trophy in May 1998 but the experiment with a separate one-day captain ended after defeat in this series. (Jeff Green and Dave Liverman, 1999).
