Profile:
David Lloyd was a staid opening bat with a successful county
career who never really established himself at the Test level. A
left handed opening bat, he was often in the same Lancashire
side as his more illustrious namesake, Clive. A grafter rather
than a stroke player, he was selected mainly as a left handed
counterfoil to Boycott. The highlight of his career was a double
century against India, and his 500+ runs were made at a
respectable average. His slow left-arm orthodox bowling was
useful at times. He later captained Lancs with some success,
before moving on to coaching. Appointed the England coach in
1996, his methods have caused considerable amusement because of
their overt patriotism, but have met with some success. A player
and coach of much enthusiasm, nicknamed "Bumble". (Contributed
