Profile:

Corey Collymore is developing into a useful one-day bowler. One of the new breed of quicks that were expected to take over from Curtley Ambrose and Courtney Walsh, injury has prevented him from exerting the genuine pace for which he became famed as a youngster.

Persistent stress fractures threatened to ruin his career, but Collymore fought back. No longer quick, he is a reliable right-armer, who has not yet made a successful transition into Test cricket.

Collymore made his debut for Barbados in 1999, and was thrust into the West Indies squad for the fourth Test in their thrilling series with Australia. He took only one wicket in what is still his only Test to date.

Collymore launched his one-day career six months later, with an accurate spell against India at Toronto. Despite this accuracy, he struggled to get wickets at the highest level, and his appearances were at best sporadic.

He came back to the one-day side for the final of the Coca-Cola Cup against India in Zimbabwe in 2001. Figures of 4/49 were good enough to give Collymore the Man of the Match award, and West Indies an unlikely tournament victory.

More was to come in Sri Lanka, as Collymore ripped through the tail to pick up 5/51. Back home, he was impressive in series with India and New Zealand. These performances were enough to earn a place in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy. (Sean Beynon, Copyright CricInfo September 2002)
