Profile:
A tremendously effective bowler in county cricket, less so in
tests, Tom Cartwright was a medium pace bowler with a wide
variety of weapons, combined with immaculate length and line. A
short run up led to an economical smooth delivery, and he
commanded many variations on speed, swing, seam and cut. A good
lower order batsman, he made 7 first class centuries including
210 for Warwickshire v Middlesex in 1962. Much respected amongst
his fellow cricketers, he took over 1500 wickets in a career
spanning three decades. After retirement he coached at Millfield
School, before becoming the national coach for the Welsh Cricket
Association, and grooming a host of young Glamorgan players.
(Dave Liverman and Andrew Hignell, 1998).
