Profile:
He was barely known even a year back. His rise was like a dream when everybody found his name headlined in the sports pages over and over again when the National League was going on last December. This whiz kid surprised the cricket-fans by plucking 49 wickets in the most important domestic league, 2000-01, to get the second position in the highest wicket-takers list.
A very humble youth of 17, Sharif possess a deceptive height (5 feet 6 inches), which hardly speaks for his bowling genius, because presently he is regarded as the fastest of Bangladeshi frontline bowlers. He has played the Asian U-17 held in Dhaka and he marveled his critics by his stupendous performance.
He can deliver reverse-swing, the most hostile of all and knows how to move the ball at both directions. Side by side, Sharif is a handy right-handed lower order hard-hitter batsman. As a fielder he looks jaunty too.
The tour in Zimbabwe brought the golden opportunity for Sharif to show his capabilities. He got his first International wicket by shuttering the stumps of Alistair Campbell by a deadly in swinger in the first match of the ODI series against the hosts. In the second one he grabbed three wickets for 49 runs.
Coincidentally, Campbell became his maiden Test victim too. He looked a bit erratic in the first Test but was pulling with in the second one.
He received a shoulder injury while attempting a catch in the nets and had to take a month long lay-off. Now he is getting his lost rhythm back and fit to play the Mutan Test that starts from August 28.
