Profile:

Alistair Brown, known at times as Lordy due to a supposed resemblance of style to "Lord" Ted Dexter, is a very hard hitting but essentially correct middle order batsman in first class cricket. He is not lacking in confidence, as was revealed when he slogged Ian Botham for four in the course of a century against Durham during his first full season. Botham glowered at him, but Brown responded: "Just emulating my hero." One of very few players with a career average of over 40 scored at around a run a ball. Played as an opener in 3 ODIs v India in 1996 scoring an unusually circumspect hundred in the third of them, before seeming to lose all form for the remainder of that season. Returned to form in 1997 for Surrey and after forcing a return to the first team scored 203 off only 119 balls against Hampshire in a Sunday league game. Seems cast as the sacrificial lamb to score runs quickly while fielding restrictions apply in the first 15 overs. A good fielder with a safe pair of hands. (Jeff Green and John Hall, Dec 1997)
