Articles about Frank Tyson
Profile:
Frank Tyson was not a tall man but his long run to crease, broad
shoulders and powerful action enabled him to bowl devastatingly fast. 'The
typhoon' as he was nicknamed is rated by Richie Benaud as the fastest bowler
he has ever seen. He played a vital role in England's 3-1 triumph in the
1954-55 ashes with his lethal pace on the fast Australian wickets, sparked
by a blow on the back of his skull from Ray Lindwall in the second Test. He
thus vindicated skipper Hutton's suprising decision to drop the great Alec
Bedser in his favour. He was unable to regain the blistering pace of that tour after injury, and he was unable to find a regular place in the
England side. His action has hard on his body, and his career was short. He took up coaching after retirement.(Ashok Sridharan and DL 1999)
