Profile:

[2000/01 Season] Mr Dependable. Gary Stead has always been considered unlucky by Canterbury supporters and when he was finally called into the national side two summers ago after eight years of first-class cricket, he showed his great character, digging in and grinding out runs against a dominant South African attack. Stead was given chances in last summer's National Bank Test Series against the West Indies but was able to average only 18.00. He continues to battle with the three Matts - Horne, Bell and Sinclair - for a place in the top order.
