Profile:
When he first appeared on the county scene Jack Flavell was one
of the fastest bowlers on the circuit, but lacked control. As he
learnt to slow his pace to gain accuracy and late movement he
became one of the most effective wicket-takers in domestic
cricket, notably so in 1965, when his bowling helped
Worcestershire to the Championship. He played only four Tests,
where, in unhelpful conditions, he had little success
(Dave Liverman, 1998).
