Profile:
One of the cricketing greats of Bangladesh, Aminul Islam, informally known as Bulbul stepped into the international arena playing against India in1988. As a right-handed batsman Aminul is always comfortable playing in the middle order especially in number four position. Since his debut Bangladesh had played 40 ODI and Aminul had missed only two of them due to injury.
He listed him in the record book scoring a scintillating 145 against India in his and his country's first test; the third highest score ever had by a debutant. He captained his side in the World Cup, 1999 in England. His team finished the tournament with two wins but Aminul's achievement was disappointing
Still he is the best batsman in his position and appeared as a match winner in many domestic and first class matches. A very
meek fellow, Aminul Islam never shows-off his stardom.
In the first Test in Zimbabwe, Aminul got another rare opportunity to set one more record, but somehow wasted it. He was nearing another hundred (84) and was unfortunately caught at third man when he tried to play a wild shot far out side the off stump. Probably Aminul would regret it for long because at that stage that shot was quite unnecessary.
He was invited to play an exhibition match for MCC club against Australia in June 2001. In the next month he went to New York along with compatriot Akram Khan to participate in the double-wicket tournament. They pulled off the success by clenching the runner-up Trophy there.
Back from New York, Aminul joined the camp of the National Squad leaving for Multan on July 22.
