Articles about Len Butterfield

Profile:

Len Butterfield played but one Test, and it was not one to remember in that the New Zealand team failed to total 100 in both innings combined. His own contribution was a pair of ducks, lbw to O'Reilly (playing his final Test) in both innings, and 0/24 with the ball. Butterfield was an all-rounder, bowling medium pace, getting some swing and lift. Work committments prevented him playing much first-class cricket, and he missed more cricket during the war years. His finest feat was five for nine from 12 overs for the South Island against North Island in the 1944-45 season, and he took 38 first-class wickets in all, along with 589 runs. Butterfield was New Zealand's chief harness racing stipendiary steward for 21 years. (DL with thanks to Tim Dunbar in the Press).
