United Financial of Japan
 PROFILE
United in their desire for consolidation, Sanwa Bank, Tokai Bank and Toyo Trust have decided to tie the three-way knot to form United Financial of Japan (UFJ). The $720 billion mega-bank is concentrating on serving the middle and retail markets. UFJ provides credit cards, leasing and underwriting services, international finance, venture capital, pension planning, and asset management. Subsidiaries include United California Bank and Tokai Real Estate Management. A fourth bank, Asahi Bank, was slated to join UFJ, but backed out of the deal in 2000.
