From its home in the land of high fashion and high notes, Banca Commerciale Italiana (Comit), a subsidiary of Banca Intesa (Italy's #1 banking company), operates via a network of more than 1,000 offices in Italy and some 370 in more than 40 other countries (it has the most international business of all Italian banks). Comit and subsidiaries offer retail banking, leasing, factoring, and more. The company also offers investment and merchant banking and insurance products. Comit was founded in 1894 and privatized 100 years later. Parent Intesa plans to convert Comit into its investment and corporate arm; Comit's retail branches will be folded into Intesa's retail operations.
