PROFILE Emergent Information Technologies has followed through on a proposal to diversify. The company, formerly Steven Myers & Associates (SM&A), made its name providing proposal management services (subsidiary SM&A still does this) to clients vying for government and commercial contracts. After its 1998 IPO, Emergent used acquisitions to expand into information technology (IT) services. About 70% of its sales are derived from its Emergent-East unit, which furnishes IT services, modeling and simulation support, program integration, and research. Customers include the US government (27% of sales), Raytheon (17%), and Lockheed Martin (12%).
