Kwik-Fit Holdings cares for Europe's tired tires and exhausted exhaust systems. Bought by Ford Motor Company in 1999, it operates about 2,300 repair shops that service and sell tires, exhaust and steering systems, brakes, and batteries; it plans to expand to 5,000 stores by 2005, opening stores across the whole of Europe and into Asia. In addition to its flagship Kwik-Fit chain, the firm operates Speedy (France, Belgium, Spain), Pitstop (Germany), and Apples Car Clinic (UK), among others. Kwik-Fit also sells auto insurance, performs fleet maintenance services, and distributes parts to its own shops and others in the Netherlands and Belgium. Founder Tom Farmer has been knighted by both the Queen and the Pope.
