PROFILE Alliance Pharmaceutical hopes its bubble doesn't burst. The firm uses perfluorochemical technology to develop gaseous medical imaging and drugs. Products in advanced stages of development are Imavist, an agent that enhances ultrasound images of cardiac activity, and LiquiVent, a pulmonary drug used to treat patients with acute respiratory failure. The company is also developing alternative drug delivery systems using gels and other agents. Alliance is resuming tests of Oxygent, a temporary oxygen carrier for use during surgery, after initial unsatisfactory findings. Development partners include Baxter, Schering, and VIA Medical.
