PROFILE Canaan Energy begets natural gas and crude oil. The oil and gas producer, which has grown through the assimilation of eight private oil and gas limited partnerships and the Indian Oil Company, operates 189 of the more than 910 wells in which it has an interest. Canaan Energy produces about 21 million cu. ft. of gas and more than 490 barrels of oil per day. Focused on the midcontinent region (Oklahoma), Canaan holds proved reserves of more than 106 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent. Formerly known as Coral Reserves Group, the company was founded in 1987 by CEO Leo Woodard and president John Penton.
