 PROFILE
Debt-plagued equipment lessor UniCapital hopes to rebuild its business by thinking small. The company plans to sell off its big ticket (more than $5 million in value) leasing business, including its passenger and cargo jet leasing operations. It will focus instead on originating, selling, and financing smaller-ticket equipment leases for the computer, telecommunications, construction and manufacturing, printing, and petroleum retail industries. Founder and CEO Robert New and other top officers resigned in 2000 after UniCapital reported larger-than-expected losses. The company has filed for bankruptcy protection.
