The Silicon Valley venture capital firm has since its inception invested in almost 400 companies and taken more than 100 public. Today the firm focuses on Internet-related businesses -- primarily e-commerce and communications. It has cut back its investments in health care. Some of Mayfield's portfolio companies include Advent Software, Citrix Systems, and Millennium Pharmaceuticals. Major partners of the fund are AOL Time Warner, Microsoft, Nokia, and Sony.
