PROFILE |
 |
Long before blacks in South Africa could vote, they could buy a brew made by South African Breweries (SAB) -- and, like the rest of their countrymen, pretty much had to. SAB, one of the world's largest brewers, dominates South African brewing with 98% of the market, including Africa's best-selling beer, Castle Lager. It also brews other regional brands, including Hansa Pilsener and Ohlsson's Lager, and it has interests in brewers in sub-Saharan Africa, China, Europe, and Russia. SAB also makes wines, spirits, and fruit drinks and bottles Coca-Cola and Schweppes products. SAB also owns about 75 hotels and three casinos, which might be sold.
