Named after a medieval Belgian duke credited with inventing the toast as a social custom, The Gambrinus Company brews, imports, and distributes beer. Among the brews it distributes are Corona Extra (the #1 imported beer in the US; Heineken is #2), Modelo Especial, Negra-Modelo, Pacifico, and Moosehead Beer. Imports pour in from Mexico and Canada and are sold primarily in the eastern US, Texas, Bermuda, and the Caribbean. Gambrinus also owns the Shiner, Texas, Spoetzl Brewery (Shiner Bock, the #1 selling bock in the US); Oregon's oldest microbrewery, BridgePort Brewing Company; and Pete's Brewing Company (Pete's Wicked Ale). Owner Carlos Alvarez founded Gambrinus in 1986 and serves as its president.
