McIlhenny Company
 PROFILE
Tabasco is hot. Created in 1868 by Edmund McIlhenny, the popular pepper sauce is still made by the McIlhenny Company on Avery Island, Louisiana, at the original site. In fact, Tabasco actually created the pepper-sauce industry, and it remains a leader to this day. The sauce is distributed to food service clients (bars and restaurants) and grocery stores in more than 100 countries. Making 500,000 2-ounce bottles of Tabasco a day, the company has a 30% share of the hot sauce retail market. In addition, McIlhenny makes or co-brands products such as pepper jelly, soy sauce, steak sauces, and jellybeans. The company also sells gifts and housewares. The McIlhenny family owns and runs the company.
