PROFILE Sorry, Charlie, but VidaMed is angling to corner the TUNA market. The company's primary product, the Trans Urethral Needle Ablation (TUNA) system, is used to treat enlarged prostate glands, a condition which afflicts nearly half of men by age 50. The FDA-approved system offers a minimally invasive alternative to drug therapy or traditional surgery. It uses radio waves to destroy part of the enlarged tissue and can be performed on an outpatient basis under local anesthesia. The company has also developed the Precision system, an even faster version of the TUNA. VidaMed markets to urologists, surgery centers, and hospitals on a fee-per-use basis.
