PROFILE Genzyme Biosurgery may turn you into the Six Million Dollar Man, but it can't do anything about your Six Million Dollar Medical Bill. The Genzyme division develops biotech products for cardiovascular and orthopedic procedures. Best sellers include knee osteoarthritis treatment Synvisc and Carticel, which repairs damaged knee cartilage. Its biosurgical specialties unit makes Seprafilm, which prevents tissue adhesions after surgery; its cardiothoracic products unit makes surgical equipment. Genzyme Biosurgery is selling its Snowden-Pencer unit (equipment for general and plastic surgery) and closing its Canadian Synvisc plant.
