PROFILE Scientific Games (formerly Autotote) likes to study and play the horses. The company is a leading maker and operator of pari-mutuel wagering equipment and online and instant ticket lottery systems, mostly in Europe and North America. Its pari-mutuel terminals record bets and calculate odds at racetracks, jai alai frontons, and off-track betting establishments. The company also simulcasts live horse and greyhound racing and jai alai events to racetracks and betting facilities. The acquisition of Scientific Games in 2000 (which Autotote integrated and took its new name from the next year) substantially boosted the firm's lottery group services and added a European pre-paid phone card business to its holdings.
