PROFILE Silverleaf Resorts helps vacationers get away without going far away. The company owns and operates about a dozen time-share resorts in six states. The company's focus is on "drive-to resorts," which are located near major cities (such as Chicago, Dallas, Houston, and St. Louis) and attract short-stay vacationers. In addition, the company owns "destination resorts" that are more luxurious and expensive. Each resort offers amenities such as fishing, boating, tennis, golf, or horseback riding. Due to financial difficulties, the company began cutting employees to curtail costs.
