PROFILE |
|
TRICON Global Restaurants' industrial-strength name comes from its triumvirate of brand icons: KFC, Pizza Hut, and Taco Bell. The former PepsiCo subsidiary is #2 in global fast-food sales (behind McDonald's), but outnumbers its rival with about 30,400 locations in more than 100 countries. To alleviate its debt load (a parting gift from PepsiCo) and boost stagnant sales, TRICON has been shifting more ownership and operations onto its franchisees, a strategy that hasn't been too successful at Taco Bell as franchisees struggle. The company is focusing its international growth on about 10 key countries, including Australia, China, and the UK. It is opening about 700 new restaurants each year outside the US.
