PROFILE Protection and detection is the connection between Halma's 45 or so subsidiaries. Having grown from humble beginnings as a tea company in 1884, Halma's businesses make products in six sectors: optics (ophthalmic lenses and specialist products); fire and gas (smoke, heat, and gas detectors); process safety (plant protection devices); elevator electronics (such as door sensors); water quality instruments; and high power resistors.
