Chaparral Steel Company
 PROFILE
TXI Chaparral Steel is steel hungry. A subsidiary of cement and steel producer Texas Industries, Chaparral recycles steel and makes a variety of bar and structural steel products such as reinforcing bar and large-sized steel beams. For raw material, Chaparral operates the world's largest steel shredder, a facility in Texas that produces 40% of the company's steel needs. It buys the remainder of its shredded steel from outside suppliers. Chaparral sells its products to cold finishers, forgers, manufacturers, steel fabricators, and steel service centers, primarily in North America. While construction is its primary market, Chaparral's products are also used by the automotive, defense, energy, and rail industries.
