PT Astra International crashed into Indonesia's stalled economy, but luckily, it was wearing its seatbelt. The #1 automaker in Indonesia, Astra makes passenger and commercial vehicles for Toyota; cars for Daihatsu and Isuzu; and motorcycles for Honda. The company's network of dealerships in Indonesia, which accounts for about 75% of Astra's sales, sells Toyota, Isuzu, Nissan, Daihatsu, BMW, and Peugeot cars. Astra also has interests in financial services, heavy machinery, agribusiness, and telecommunications. The Indonesian government sold its 38.4% stake in Astra to a consortium led by Cycle & Carriage (which alone owns about 31%).
