Business Summary

British American Tobacco is an international cigarette manufacturer with manufacturing and processing operations in over 50 countries. The Company's leading international brands include Dunhill, Lucky Strike, Kent, State Express 555, Rothmans, Peter Stuyvesant, Benson & Hedges, Kool, Pall Mall, Viceroy, Winfield and John Player Gold Leaf. British American Tobacco also produces fine cut, pipe tobacco and cigars. The Company's leading fine cut tobacco brands are Samson, Ajja, Javaanse Jongens and locally favored brands such as Belgam in Belgium or Schwarzer Krauser in Germany. Major pipe tobacco brands include Clan, Erinmore, Captain Black and Dunhill. The Company's most widely distributed cigar brands are Mercator, Dunhill and Schimmelpenninck. The Company's finished products are distributed to more than 15 million retail outlets throughout the world, including supermarkets, convenience stores, hotels, restaurants, cafes, tobacconists and duty free shops outside Europe.

Financial Summary

Net income applicable to Common rose 46% to L414M. Results reflect the Rothmans acquisition as well as increased operating profits.
