Business Summary
Chevron Corporation manages its investments in, and provides administrative, financial and management support to, United States and foreign subsidiaries and affiliates that engage in fully integrated petroleum operations, chemicals operations, coal mining and energy services. The Company operates in the United States and approximately 100 other countries. Petroleum operations consist of exploring for, developing and producing crude oil and natural gas; refining crude oil into finished petroleum products; marketing crude oil, natural gas and the many products derived from petroleum, and transporting crude oil, natural gas and petroleum products by pipelines, marine vessels, motor equipment and rail car. Chemicals operations include the manufacture and marketing of commodity petrochemicals, plastics for industrial uses and fuel and lubricating oil additives.

Financial Summary
CHV provides administrative, financial and management support for its U.S. and foreign affiliates, which engage in petroleum, chemical and coal mining operations. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total revenues rose 1% to $25.30 billion. Net income rose 35% to $2.92 billion. Revenues reflect higher prices and sales of natural gas and refined products. Net income also reflects higher gross margins, currency gains, lower operating costs and a decrease in interest and debt expenses.
