Business Summary
Allstate Corp. (Allstate) is engaged, principally in the United States and Canada, in the personal property and casualty insurance business and the life insurance and investment products business. The Company's business is conducted principally through Allstate Insurance Company, Allstate Life Insurance Company and their affiliates. Allstate is the second largest personal property and casualty insurer in the United States on the basis of 1999 statutory premiums earned, the nation's 13th largest life insurance business based on ordinary life insurance in force, and the 21st based on statutory admitted assets. Allstate's business segments are personal property and casualty; Allstate Financial, the Company's life insurance and investment products business; and corporate and other business.

Financial Summary
ALL is a holding company for Allstate Insurance Company and subsidiaries. Allstate is engaged in the property-liability insurance, life insurance and annuity business. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total revenues fell 1% to $14.33 billion. Net income before acct. change and applicable to Common fell 34% to $677 million. Results reflect increased loss costs and varying market conditions in the financial services sector.
