The Company's newspapers are characterized by a focus on coverage of local news and local sports, and offer graphic design in colorful, reader-friendly packages. The Company owns other businesses that complement and enhance its publishing operations, which, as of December 31, 2000, consisted of four commercial printing operations, as well as a company that develops application software for the newspaper industry.

JRC is a United States newspaper publishing company that owns 24 daily newspapers, including the New Haven Register, Connecticut's second largest newspaper and Sunday newspaper. For the six months ended 7/1/01, revenues fell 18% to $193.6 million. Net income totalled $59.8 million, up from $22.8 million. Revenues reflect a slowdown in advertising spending. Net income reflects a $32.2 million gain on the sale of two Ohio operations.
