Business Summary
Delta and Pine Land Company is primarily engaged in the breeding, production, conditioning and marketing of proprietary varieties of cotton planting seed in the United States and other cotton producing nations. D&PL also breeds, produces, conditions and distributes soybean-planting seed in the United States. D&PL sells its products in foreign countries through export sales from the United States, direct in-country operations, and to a lesser degree, distributors or licensees. In 2000, the majority of international sales came from joint ventures and export sales, primarily in China, Australia, Greece and South Africa.

Financial Summary
Delta and Pine Land Company breeds, produces, markets and conditions varieties of cotton planting seed. DLP also breeds, produces and distributes soybean planting seed. For the nine months ended 5/31/01, revenues rose 5% to $299.2 million. Net income applicable to Common before acct. change fell 52% to $41.8 million. Results reflect the market penetration of the Company's stacked gene products, offset by the absence of the merger termination fees gained during the prior period.
