Business Summary
Symphonix Devices, Inc. develops, manufactures and markets a proprietary line of semi-implantable Soundbridge hearing devices for the management of moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss. The Company is also developing a fully implantable Soundbridge. The Soundbridge is a middle ear implant technology designed to vibrate the small bones in the middle ear, enhancing the natural hearing process. The Vibrant Soundbridge, the family of semi-implantable devices, was approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration for marketing in the United States in late 2000. The Vibrant Soundbridge is also being marketed in Europe by the Company's European distribution partner, Siemens Audiologische Technik GmbH. As of December 31, 2000, over 500 Soundbridges had been implanted worldwide.
