Business Summary
GPU, Inc. is a holding company that does not directly operate any utility properties, but owns all the outstanding common stock of three domestic electric utilities, Jersey Central Power & Light Company, Metropolitan Edison Company and Pennsylvania Electric Company. GPU Electric, which includes GPU Capital, Inc. and GPU Electric, Inc. and their subsidiaries, owns, operates and funds the acquisition of electric distribution and gas transmission systems in foreign countries. Other subsidiaries of GPU include GPU Advanced Resources, Inc., which is involved in retail energy sales; GPU Telcom Services, Inc., which is engaged in telecommunications-related businesses; MYR Group Inc., which is a utility infrastructure construction services company; GPU Service, Inc., which provides legal, accounting, financial and other services to the GPU companies; GPU Diversified Holdings LLC, and GPU Nuclear, Inc.

Financial Summary
GPU, Inc. is a holding company for three electric utilities serving customers in NJ and PA: Jersey Central Power and Light Company, Metropolitan Edison Company and Penn Electric Co. For the six months ended 6/01, revenues rose 8% to $2.65 billion. Net income totalled $155.6 million vs. a loss of $79.8 million. Revenues reflect the return of numerous shopping customers from alternate generation suppliers. Earnings reflect the absence of a $372.5 million business sale loss.
