Business Summary
Chesapeake Energy Corporation is an independent natural gas producer in the United States. Its primary operating area is the Mid-Continent region of the United States, which includes Oklahoma, western Arkansas, southwestern Kansas and the Texas Panhandle. Other core operating areas include the Deep Giddings field in Texas, which includes the Austin Chalk and Georgetown formations, the Helmet area of northeastern British Columbia and the Permian Basin region of southeastern New Mexico. The Company produced 134 bcfe in 2000, and had proved oil and gas reserves of 1,656 bcfe at December 31, 2000. The Company had interests in approximately 6,000 producing wells at December 31, 2000, of which 270 were classified as primarily oil producing wells and 5,730 were classified as primarily gas producing wells. Chesapeake operates approximately 4,000 of the total 6,000 producing wells.

Financial Summary
Chesapeake Energy Corporation is engaged in the exploration and production of oil and natural gas. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues totaled $553.1 million, up from $249.1 million. Net income applicable to Common before extraordinary item totaled $155 million, up from $57.8 million. Revenues benefitted from an increase in average oil and gas prices and an increase in production. Net income also reflects decreased S/G/A expenses as a percentage of revenues.
