Washington Federal, Inc. is a non-diversified unitary savings and loan holding company within the meaning of the Home Owners' Loan Act (HOLA) that conducts its operations through a federally insured savings and loan association subsidiary, Washington Federal Savings and Loan Association. The business of Washington Federal consists primarily of attracting savings deposits from the general public and investing these funds in loans secured by first mortgage liens on single-family dwellings, including loans for the construction of such dwellings, and to a significantly lesser extent, on commercial property and multi-family dwellings. Washington Federal has 108 offices located in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Arizona, Utah and Nevada, all of which are full service branches.

Financial Summary
Washington Federal Inc. is a holding company for Washington Federal Savings, a Savings and Loan Association. For the nine months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 10% to $402.1 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. increased 1% to $153.3 million. Net income increased 1% to $81.7 million. Net interest income reflects greater interest-earning assets, partially offset by higher interest on deposits. Net income reflects a higher gain on investment securities.
