aaiPharma Inc., formerly Applied Analytical Industries, Inc., is a specialty pharmaceutical and product life cycle management company with comprehensive drug development capabilities in the United States, Europe and Asia. The core services provided on a fee-for-service basis to pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries worldwide include comprehensive formulation, testing and manufacturing expertise, in addition to the ability to take investigational products into and through human clinical trials. The product sales business provides for the production of clinical trials materials for Phase I through IV clinical trials and the outsourcing of commercial manufacturing of small-quantity products for other pharmaceutical companies. In the product development segment, the Company internally develops drugs and technologies with the objective of licensing marketing rights to third parties in exchange for license fees and royalties.

Financial Summary
aaIPharma Inc. provides product development and support services on a contract basis for pharmaceutical companies and the development of select generic drugs and improved formulations of marketed drugs. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 13% to $60 million. Net income before accouting change fell 25% to $1.8 million. Results reflect higher research revenues. Earnings were offset by increased direct costs and a $1.7 million pharmaceutical start-up expense.
