Business Summary
ChemFirst Inc. is involved in the production of electronic and other specialty chemicals for use in the semiconductor industry and in pharmaceutical, cosmetic, polymer, photographic, photosensitive and agricultural applications, as well as the production of polyurethane chemicals. Much of the Company's focus is on development of products and processes for its customers' next-generation semiconductors, pharmaceutical, agricultural or consumer products. These electronic and other specialty chemicals are produced at Company-owned facilities in Hayward, California; East Kilbride, Scotland; Pascagoula, Mississippi; Tyrone, Pennsylvania, and Dayton, Ohio. Most of the Company's electronic chemicals are used in the semiconductor and related industries. These products include organic post-metal cleaning solutions that remove photoresist and dry-etch residue during the manufacture of semiconductors.

Financial Summary
CEM is involved in the production of electronic and other specialty chemicals for use in the semiconductor, pharmaceutical, polymer, phographic, photosensitive, agricultural and polyurethane chemicals applications. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 10% to $180.7 million. Net loss from continuing operations totalled $11.1 million vs. income of $11.9 million. Results reflect lower electronic chemical sales, and $27.5 million in business exit costs.
