Scholastic Corporation is a global children's publishing and media company. Scholastic creates quality educational and entertaining materials and products for use in school and at home, including children's books, textbooks, magazines, technology-based products, teacher materials, television programming, videos and toys. The Company's website, Scholastic.com, is a leading site for teachers and classrooms as well as a destination for children. In June 2000, Scholastic acquired Grolier Incorporated, a leading operator of United States direct-to-home book clubs for children, primarily serving children age five and under, and is the leading print and on-line publisher of children's non-fiction and reference products sold primarily to United States school libraries.

Financial Summary
SCHL is a publisher and distributor of children's books, K-12 textbooks, classroom materials and magazines, instructional technology and entertainment products such as TV programming, videos, movies and internet services. For the fiscal year ended 5/31/01, revenues rose 40% to $1.96 billion. Net income fell 29% to $36.3 million. Results reflect the growth in the Children's Book Publishing and Distribution segment, offset by a $72.9 million charge related to the decision not to upgrade SLP.
