The Company principally serves large and mid-size business and government customers on a national and international basis, as well as residential and small business customers primarily in its 14-state local service area. The Company is organized on the basis of its products and services and operates in four segments: retail services, wholesale services, network services and directory services.

Financial Summary
Q provides broadband Internet communications services in four segments: retail, wholesale, network and directory services. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 50% to $10.27 billion. Net loss before extraordinary item totaled $3.29 billion, vs. an income of $283 million. Revenues reflect increased sales of data, Internet and wireless products and services due to an increase in digital subscriber line customers. Net loss reflects $3.25 billion in investment write-downs.
