Business Summary
Sysco Corporation is the largest North American distributor of food and food related products to the foodservice or "food-prepared-away-from-home" industry. Sysco provides its products and services to approximately 356,000 customers, including restaurants, healthcare and educational facilities, lodging establishments and other foodservice customers. The foodservice industry consists of two major customer segments - "traditional" and "chain restaurant." Traditional broadline foodservice customers include restaurants, hospitals, schools, hotels and industrial caterers. Sysco's chain restaurant customers include regional pizza and national hamburger, chicken and steak chain operations. Services to the Company's traditional broadline foodservice and chain restaurant customers are supported by similar physical facilities, vehicles, materials handling equipment and techniques, and administrative and operating staffs.

Financial Summary
Sysco Corporation is engaged in the marketing and distribution of a wide range of food and related products to the foodservice industry. For the fiscal year ended 6/30/01, sales increased 13% to $21.78 billion. Net income before accounting change increased 32% to $596.9 million. Revenues reflect additional sales due to acquisitions and increased product prices. Earnings also reflect a higher gross margin and improved efficiencies.
