Business Summary
Packaging Corp. of America produces containerboard and corrugated products. In 2000, the Company produced about 2.2 million tons of containerboard, about 80% of which was consumed in its corrugated products manufacturing plants, and shipped about 26.5 billion square feet of corrugated products. The Company's converting operations produce a wide variety of corrugated packaging products, including conventional shipping containers used to protect and transport manufactured goods. The Company also produces multi-color boxes and displays designed to have strong visual appeal, in order to help merchandise the packaged product in retail locations. Finally, the Company is a large producer of meat boxes and wax-coated boxes for the agricultural industry.

Packaging Corp. of America, produces corrugated containers as well as the containerboard used to manufacture corrugated containers. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 5% to $921.6 million. Net income applicable to Common before accounting change rose 49% to $59.4 million. Revenues reflect decreased sales volumes and prices of containerboard and corrugated products. Earnings reflect the absence of $18.6 million in Preferred Dividends.
