Business Summary
UIL Holdings Corporation is the parent holding company for The United Illuminating Company (UI) and United Resources, Inc (URI). UI is a regulated operating electric public utility established in 1899, which is engaged principally in the purchase, transmission, distribution and sale of electricity for residential, commercial and industrial purposes in a service area of about 335 square miles in the southwestern part of the State of Connecticut. URI serves as the parent corporation for several non-regulated businesses, each of which is incorporated separately. URI has four wholly owned subsidiaries: American Payment Systems, Inc.; Xcelecom, Inc.; United Capital Investments, Inc.; and United Bridgeport Energy, Inc.

Financial Summary
UIL, a holding co., is engaged in the production, purchase, transmission, and distribution of electricity for residential, commercial, and industrial customers in south western CT. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 26% to $504.7 million. Net income applicable to Common fell 29% to $24.7 million. Revenues reflect increased income from non-regulated business. Net income was offset by an increase in operation and maintenance expenses.
