Office Depot, Inc. and its subsidiaries supply office products and services throughout the world. The Company sells to consumers and businesses of all sizes through the Company's three business segments: North American Retail Division, Business Services Group and International Division. Businesses in the Company's industry primarily sell three broad categories of merchandise: general office supplies, technology products and office furniture. Office products distributors include contract stationers (selling at discounts from list prices to their contract customers), mail order companies (selling through catalogs) and retailers (including office superstores such as the ones the Company operate). Internet-based companies have also emerged as a channel in this industry.

Financial Summary
ODP operates a chain of retail office products stores, provides delivery of its products in the U.S. and Canada to store and catalog customers, and is a full-service contract stationer serving businesses throughout the U.S. For the 26 weeks ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 2% to $5.57 billion. Net income fell 41% to $98.3 million. Revenues reflect a decrease in comparable store sales. Earnings reflect also a decrease in gross profit and increased interest expense.
