Business Summary
Fidelity Bankshares, Inc. is the holding company parent of Fidelity Federal Bank and Trust. The Company is primarily engaged in the business of attracting deposits from the general public in its market area, and investing such deposits, together with other sources of funds, in loans secured by one- to four-family residential real estate. In recent years, the Company has increased its commercial real estate lending, and its consumer and commercial business lending activities. Its goal over the next several years is to continue to increase the origination of these loans, consistent with its standards of safety and soundness. To a lesser extent, the Company also originates multi-family loans, construction loans and land loans for single-family properties.

Financial Summary
FFFL is bank holding company for Fidelity Federal Bank and Trust, which operates 34 branches in Florida. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 10% to $69.6 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. rose 5% to $23.8 million. Net income fell 61% to $1.9 million. Net interest income reflects an increase in average loan balances, offset by higher deposit interest expense. Earnings were offset by a $1.1 million charge for the company's computer upgrade.
