Business Summary
Media General, Inc. is a communications company situated primarily in the Southeast, with interests in newspapers, television stations, interactive media and diversified information services. As of December 31, 2000, the Company's wholly owned publishing operations included daily and Sunday newspapers in Virginia, Florida, North Carolina, Alabama and South Carolina. The Broadcast Television Division operates 26 network-affiliated television stations in the United States. The primary source of revenues for the Company's television stations is the sale of time to national and local advertisers. In January 2001, the Company launched its Interactive Media Division that will operate in conjunction with its Publishing and Broadcast Divisions to provide online news, information and entertainment services to its customers without geographic restrictions.

Media General, Inc. is a communications company with interests innewspapers, broadcast television, interactive media, recycles newsprint production and diversified information services. For the 26 weeks ended 7/1/01 revenues rose 5% to $404.6 million. Net income from continuing operations fell 68% to $11 million. Results reflect acquisitions of television stations and daily newspapers, offset by higher production costs and increased debt levels.
