Costco Wholesale Corporation operates membership warehouses that offer very low prices on a limited selection of nationally branded and selected private label products in a wide range of merchandise categories in no-frills, self-service warehouse facilities. At September 3, 2000, Costco operated 313 warehouse clubs, comprised of 237 in the United States, 59 in Canada, 10 in the United Kingdom, three in Korea, three in Taiwan, and one in Japan. As of September 3, 2000, the Company also operated (through a 50%-owned joint venture) 18 warehouses in Mexico.

Financial Summary
Costco Wholesale Corporation operates warehouses that offer low prices on a limited selection of nationally branded and selected private label products in a wide range of categories in no-frills, self-service warehouses. For the 36 weeks ended 5/13/01, revenues increased 10% to $23.66 billion. Earnings fell 5% to $411.4 million. Revenues reflect the opening of 35 new warehouses. Earnings were offset by higher merchandise costs and S/G/A expenses.
