Business Summary
Sola International Inc. is a designer, manufacturer and distributor of a broad range of plastic and glass eyeglass lenses. The Company commenced operations in 1960 and was incorporated in 1993. Sola has sales offices in 30 countries worldwide and operates in most major regions of the world, including North America, Europe and Rest of World (primarily Australia, Asia and South America). The Company focuses its efforts on value-added products, including products with advanced design characteristics, lens coatings and treatments and thin and light weight materials, such as polycarbonate. Sola markets its spectacle lens products under the brands SOLA and American Optical (AO) and distributes them globally through three primary channels: direct to national chain retail, direct to retail outlets and wholesale distributors, such as independent processing laboratories). In the United States, the Company sells directly to managed care organizations.

Financial Summary
SOL designs, manufactures and distributes a broad range of plastic and glass eyeglass lenses. For the three months ended 6/30/01, net sales decreased 4% to $136 million. Net income before extraordinary item totaled $6.7 million, up from $882 thousand. Revenues reflect the Company's efforts to concentrate on higher margin value-added sales and lower sales to laboratory customers. Earnings benefited from the absence of special charges and lower amortization expenses.
