Business Summary
Darling International Inc. is a recycler of food processing by-products. The Company collects and recycles animal processing by-products and used restaurant cooking oil. In addition, the Company provides grease trap collection services to restaurants. The Company processes such raw materials at 27 facilities located throughout the United States into finished products such as tallow, meat and bone meal and yellow grease. Darling sells these products primarily to producers of various industrial and commercial oleo-chemicals, soaps, pet foods and livestock feed, for use as ingredients in their products or for further processing into basic chemical compounds. The Company creates finished products primarily through the drying, grinding, separating and blending of its various raw materials. The process starts with the collection of animal processing by-products and used restaurant cooking oil from meat packers, grocery stores, butcher shops, meat markets, poultry processors and restaurants.

Financial Summary
Darling International collects and processes animal by-products and used restaurant cooking oil to produce finished products of tallow, meat and bone meal and yellow grease. DAR also provides grease trap collection services to restaurants. For the 26 weeks ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 2% to $122.2 million. Net loss from continuing ops fell 12% to $6.9 million. Revenues reflect a decrease in overall finished goods prices. Lower loss reflects lower raw material prices.
