Business Summary
Macerich Company is involved in the acquisition, ownership, redevelopment, management and leasing of regional and community shopping centers located throughout the United States. The Company is the sole general partner of, and owns a majority of the ownership interests in, The Macerich Partnership, L.P. (the Operating Partnership). The Operating Partnership owns or has an ownership interest in 46 regional shopping centers and five community shopping centers, aggregating approximately 42 million square feet of gross leasable area .The Company is a self-administered and self-managed real estate investment trust and conducts all of its operations through the Operating Partnership and the Company's three management companies, Macerich Property Management Company, Macerich Manhattan Management Company and Macerich Management Company.

Financial Summary
MAC is an equity REIT involved in the acquisition, ownership, redevelopment, management and leasing of regional and community shopping centers nationwide. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 5% to $158.5 million. Net income applicable to Common, before extraordinary item and accounting change fell 10% to $13.4 million. Revenues reflect increased rent from Same and Redevelopment Centers. Net income reflects higher property taxes and a greater loss on the sale of assets.
