Business Summary
HCC Insurance Holdings Inc. provides specialized property and casualty, and accident and health insurance coverages, underwriting agency and intermediary services and other insurance related services both to commercial customers and individuals. The Company operates primarily in the United States and in the United Kingdom, although some of its operations have a broader international scope. The Company underwrites insurance on both a direct basis, where it insures a risk in exchange for a premium, and reinsurance basis, where the Company insures all or a portion of another insurance company's risk in exchange for all or portion of the premium.

Financial Summary
HCC is principally engaged in providing aviation, marine, offshore energy, property, accident and health, and lenders single interest insurance and reinsurance on a worldwide basis. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 3% to $235.6 million. Net income before acct. chg. rose 33% to $35.4 million. Revenues reflect a reduction in the underwriting segment. Earnings were offset by improved underwriting performance of the insurance segment and investment income.
