Electrochemical Industries (1952) Limited, formerly Electrochemical Industries (Frutarom) Ltd., was incorporated in 1952 and conducts business principally in the plastic sector. The operations of the Company are conducted at its plant in Acre, Israel and through its subsidiaries for marketing polyvinyl chloride (PVC) in Europe and through subsidiaries abroad for the production of downstream products with PVC as the main raw material. The major products of the Company are plastics consisting of various grades and types of PVC, which is sold to customers in domestic and export markets for the purpose of manufacturing plastic products for consumer use. In addition, the Company also produces other chemical products, including chlorine, caustic soda, caustic potash and sodium hypochlorite and hydrochloric acid.

Financial Summary
EIL, a manufacturing company, engages mainly in the production of raw materials for the plastic industry (PVC) and other industrial chemicals and production of downstream products from P.V.C. For the three months ended 3/31/01, net sales fell 23% to $31.7 million. Net loss totaled $4.2 million vs. an income of $972 thousand. Results reflect the continued price erosion of PVC, reduced demand in Western Europe, lower margins and increased administrative expenses.
