Business Summary
Capitol Federal Financial is the holding company for its wholly owned subsidiary, Capitol Federal Savings Bank. The Company is a community-oriented financial institution offering a variety of financial services to meet the needs of the communities it serves. The Company primarily serves the entire metropolitan areas of Topeka, Wichita, Lawrence, Manhattan, Emporia and Salina, Kansas, and a portion of the metropolitan area of greater Kansas City through 27 full-service and seven limited-service banking offices. Revenues are derived principally from interest on loans and mortgage-related and investment securities. At September 30, 2000, the Company had total assets of $8.27 billion, deposits of $3.96 billion and total equity of $986.2 million. The Company is majority-owned by Capitol Federal Savings Bank MHC, a federally chartered mutual holding company.

Financial Summary
CFFN is a federally chartered S&L hdlg. Co. serving several areas in Kansas. For the nine months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 17% to $436.2 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. rose 1% to $126.7 million. Net income rose 4% to $58.2 million. Net interest income reflects increased balance of loans and investments, partially offset by higher avg. costs of borrowings. Earnings benefitted from increased non-interest income and lower income tax paid.
