Business Summary
Commerce Bancshares, Inc. is a bank holding company that owns all of the outstanding capital stock of four national banking associations that are headquartered in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Nebraska. Specifically, these are Commerce Bank, N.A. (Missouri), Commerce Bank, N.A. (Illinois), Commerce Bank, N.A. (Kansas) and Commerce Bank of Omaha, N.A. (Nebraska). The Nebraska bank is limited in its activities to issuance of credit cards. The remaining three banking subsidiaries engage in general banking business, providing a broad range of retail, corporate, investment and private banking products and services to individuals and businesses. The Company also owns, directly or through its banking subsidiaries, various non-banking subsidiaries. As of December 31, 2000, the Company had consolidated assets of $11.1 billion, consolidated loans of $7.9 billion and consolidated deposits of $9.1 billion.

Financial Summary
CBSH, a bank holding company, operates throughout MO, IL, KS, and NE, with subsidiaries in insurance, securities investment, real estate and brokerage. For the six months ended 6/30/01, interest income fell 1% to $393.9 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. fell 2% to $217 million. Net income rose 3% to $89.7 million. Net interest income reflects decreased investment income, and higher interest on long term debt. Earnings benefitted from increased deposit account charges.
