Business Summary
Minerals Technologies Inc. is a resource- and technology-based company that develops, produces and markets worldwide a broad range of specialty mineral, mineral-based and synthetic mineral products. The Company has two operating segments: Specialty Minerals and Refractories. The Specialty Minerals segment produces and sells precipitated calcium carbonate (PCC) and lime, and mines, processes and sells the natural mineral products limestone and talc. This segment's products are used principally in the paper, building materials, paints and coatings, glass, ceramic, polymers, food and pharmaceutical industries. The Refractories segment produces and markets monolithic and shaped refractory materials and services used primarily by the steel, cement and glass industries.

Financial Summary
MTX is a resource and technology-based company that develops, produces and markets specialty mineral, mineral-based and synthetic mineral products. For the six months ended 7/1/01, net sales rose less than 1% to $334.7 million. Netincome decreased 32% to $22 million. Revenues reflect flat worldwide sales and negative foreign exchange effects. Lower earnings reflect an increased cost of sales and a $3.4 million restructuring charge.
