Business Summary
Ocular Sciences, Inc. (Ocular) is a manufacturer and marketer of soft contact lenses. Ocular manufactures a broad line of soft contact lenses marketed for annual and disposable replacement regimens. The Company believes that its lens designs provide wearers with a higher level of comfort and greater ease of handling than those of its leading competitors. Ocular's manufacturing technologies permit consistent, cost-effective reproduction of these designs, allowing the Company to offer its lenses at competitive prices. In addition, the Company has implemented marketing strategies designed to assist eyecare practitioners, both in independent practice and in retail chains, in retaining their patients and monitoring their patients' ocular health. These strategies provide a significant incentive for practitioners to prescribe the Company's lenses.

Financial Summary
Ocular is engaged in the design, manufacture and distribution of contact lenses and conducts business under the name of Hydron Biomedics. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 37% to $117.9 million. Net income fell 52% to $11.9 million. Revenues reflect growth in the company's existing product lines, and the acquisition of Essilor. Earnings were offset by a $4.2 million charge related to acquired in-process research and development.
