Wells Fargo & Company is a diversified financial services company providing banking, mortgage and consumer finance through stores, the Internet and other distribution channels throughout North America and elsewhere internationally. Its subsidiaries provide retail, commercial and corporate banking services through banks located in Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming. Additional financial services are provided to customers by subsidiaries engaged in various businesses, principally wholesale banking, mortgage banking, consumer finance, equipment leasing, agricultural finance, commercial finance, securities brokerage and investment banking, insurance agency services, computer and data processing services, trust services, mortgage-backed securities servicing and venture capital investment.

Financial Summary
WFC is a holding company whose subsidiaries are engaged in banking and a variety related businesses. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 9% to $9.70 billion. Net interest income after loan loss provsion rose 6% to $5.04 billion. Net income applicable to Common fell 48% to $1.70 billion. Net interest income reflects increased income on loans, partially offset by higher interest expense. Net income suffered from losses on net venture capital.
