Business Summary
First Financial Holdings, Inc. is a savings and loan holding company that owns and operates First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Charleston and Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association, Conway, South Carolina. The business of the Company consists primarily of acting as a financial intermediary by attracting deposits from the general public and using such funds, together with borrowings and other funds, to originate first mortgage loans on residential properties located in its primary market areas. The Company also owns First Southeast Investor Services, Inc., organized for the purpose of operating as a broker-dealer. At September 30, 2000, First Financial had total assets of $2.3 billion, total deposits of $1.2 billion and stockholders' equity of $137.9 million.

Financial Summary
First Financial Holdings is a savings and loan holding company for First Federal Savings and Loan Association of Charleston and Peoples Federal Savings and Loan Association. For the nine months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 10% to $131 million. Net interest income after loss prov. rose 6% to $47.6 million. Net income rose 12% to $16.6 million. Net interest income reflects increased earning assets, partially offset by lower spreads. Earnings reflect higher service fees.
