Its business operates in Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wisconsin.

Panera Bread Co. operates a retail bakery-cafe business and franchising business under the concept names Panera Bread Company and Saint Louis Bread Company. For the 28 weeks ended 7/14/01, sales rose 33% to $97 million. Net income increased 57% to $5.4 million. Revenues reflect the opening of new bakery-cafes, increases in comparable restaurant sales and higher unit sales volume. Earnings benefited from improved operating efficiencies.
