Business Summary
Briggs & Stratton Corporation is the world's largest producer of air-cooled gasoline engines for outdoor power equipment. The Company designs, manufactures, markets and services these products for original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide. These engines are primarily aluminum alloy gasoline engines ranging from 3 through 25 horsepower. The Company's engines are used primarily by the lawn and garden equipment industry. Major lawn and garden equipment applications include walk-behind lawn mowers, riding lawn mowers and garden tillers. Other uses include industrial, construction, agricultural and consumer applications, including generators, pumps and pressure washers.

Financial Summary
Briggs and Stratton is a U.S. based producer of air cooled gasoline engines which are sold to manufacturers of lawn and garden equipment and other gasoline engine powered equipment worldwide. For the fiscal year ended 6/30/01, sales fell 18% to $1.31 billion. Net income fell 65% to $48 million. Revenues reflect lower engine production levels and a change in product mix. Earnings also suffered from lower margins, and higher short-term borrowings.
