News Corporation Limited, together with its subsidiaries, is a diversified international communications company principally engaged in the production and distribution of motion pictures and television programming; television, satellite and cable broadcasting; the publication of newspapers, magazines and books; the production and distribution of promotional and advertising products and services; the development of digital broadcasting; the development of conditional access and subscriber management systems, and the creation and distribution of online programming. News Corporation's activities are conducted primarily in the United States, the United Kingdom, Australia and the Pacific Basin. On July 23, 2001, News Corporation reached a definitive agreement to sell Fox Family Worldwide to Walt Disney Co. in a transaction expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2001. On July 31, 2001, the Company acquired Chris-Craft Industries, Inc., BHC Communications, Inc. and United Television, Inc.

NWS is a diversified global communications company engaged in motion picture production, television broadcasting, and newspaper, magazine, and book publishing. For the fiscal year ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 14% to A$25.58 billion. Net loss totaled A$746 million, vs. an income of A$1.92 billion. Revenues reflect advertising gains and increased affiliate rates at India's STAR Plus channel. Net loss reflects investment write-offs and a A$686 million charge relating to accounting changes.
