Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products N.V. is an international developer, licensor and provider of advanced speech and language technologies, products, solutions and services. The Company's core technologies include automatic speech recognition, text-to-speech, digital speech compression, text-to-text translation and linguistic components. In 1999, the Company operated its business in three customer-focused divisions: Speech and Language Technologies and Solutions; Speech and Language Applications, and Speech and Language Consulting and Services. On May 5, 2000, the Company acquired the capital stock of Dictaphone Corporation through a merger of Dictaphone into one of its wholly owned subsidiaries. Dictaphone Corporation develops, manufactures, markets, services and supports integrated voice and data-management systems and software. In November 2000, the Company announced that it has voluntarily filed a Chapter 11 petition for reorganization protection under the U.S. bankruptcy code.

Financial Summary
Lernout and Hauspie Speech Products N.V. is a developer and licensor of advanced speech technologies. The Co. has four divisions: Speech Technologies, Dictation, Translation and Localization and Language Technologies. For the six months ended 6/00, total revenues rose 81% to $265.6 million. Net loss totaled $17.2 million vs. an income of $20.7 million. Results reflect the acquisitions of Dictaphone and Dragon, offset by increased goodwill amortization from business acquisitions.
