Business Summary
Focal Communications Corporation is a national broadband communications provider that offers voice, data and Internet infrastructure services to large communications-intensive users in major cities. As of December 31, 2000, the Company offered service in a total of 20 markets, which encompass a total of 49 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs), and plans to serve 24 markets, or 56 MSAs, by the end of 2001. As of December 31, 2000, the Company had 435,272 lines in service. In September 2000, the Company announced the launch of its first Focal Internet eXchange platform in its Chicago market. Its Internet eXchange platforms provide high-speed, managed Internet access, colocation and private peering services to large corporations, value-added resellers, network service providers and content and application service providers.

Financial Summary
FCOM is a national broadband communications provider, offering data, voice and Internet infrastructure services to large corporations, ISPs, content service providers, ASPs, and VARs. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 55% to $164 million. Net loss rose 73% to $73 million. Results reflect an increased number of lines in service and new interconnection agreements, offset by increased network and personnel costs and higher net interest expense.
