The Charles Schwab Corporation engages in securities brokerage and related financial services through its subsidiaries. The Company provides financial services to individuals, institutional clients and broker-dealers through four segments. They consist of Individual Investor, Institutional Investor, Capital Markets and U.S. Trust. The Individual Investor segment includes the Company's domestic and international retail operations. The Institutional Investor segment provides custodial, trading and support services to independent investment managers and serves company 401(k) plan sponsors and third-party administrators. The Capital Markets segment provides trade execution services in Nasdaq, exchange-listed and other securities primarily to broker-dealers and institutional clients. The U.S. Trust segment provides investment management, fiduciary services and private banking services to individual and institutional clients.

Financial Summary
The Charles Schwab Corp. is a provider of securities brokerage and related financial services, including retail, telephone and Internet-based brokerage operations. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 27% to $2.27 billion. Net income before extraordinary items fell 82% to $78 million. Results reflect the slowdown in trading activities due to economic uncertainties and decreased asset management/administration fees due to less margin loan usage and lower interest rates.
