Leggett & Platt, Incorporated is a diversified manufacturer of a wide range of engineered products. The Company serves markets for residential furnishings, commercial furnishings, aluminum products, industrial materials and specialized products. The Company's residential furnishings products include a broad line of components used by manufacturers to make finished bedding and residential furniture products. The Company manufactures a variety of commercial furnishings products, including both finished products and components. Leggett & Platt die-casts aluminum components for use in a number of different industries, primarily for non-automotive applications. The Company produces drawn steel wire and welded steel tubing as well as specialty wire products. The Company manufactures components primarily for automotive interior applications, and designs, builds and sells specialized machinery and equipment.

Financial Summary
Leggett and Platt is a manufacturer of a wide range of engineered products which include residential and commercial furnishings, aluminum products, industrial materials and specialized products. For the six months ended 6/30/01, net sales decreased 2% to $2.09 billion. Net income decreased 35% to $96.9 million. Revenues reflect lower same-store sales and a weak market demand. Earnings also reflect acquisition expenses and lower gross margins.
