Business Summary
Newmont Mining Corporation is engaged in the production of gold, the exploration for gold and the acquisition and development of gold properties worldwide. In 2000, the Company produced gold from mines in Nevada and California, as well as outside of the United States from operations in Peru, Indonesia, Mexico and Uzbekistan. The Company also produced copper concentrates from a copper/gold deposit at a second location in Indonesia. As a result of the merger with Battle Mountain, the Company now has added gold production from mines in Canada, Australia and Bolivia. In both 2000 and 1999, approximately 65% of its gold production came from North American operations and 35% from overseas operations. In 2000, 55% of its overseas production, or 19% of its total production, was attributable to Minera Yanacocha in Peru.

Financial Summary
Newmont Mining Corp. is engaged in the production of gold, the development of gold properties, the exploration for gold and the acquisition of gold properties worldwide. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 9% to $793.3 million. Net loss applicable to Common and before acct. change totaled $72.6 million, up from $19.7 million. Results reflect lower realized gold prices, lower gross margins and a $60.5 million merger and restructuring charge.
