Business Summary
Ameren Corporation is a public utility holding company that does not own or operate any significant assets other than the stock of its subsidiaries. Ameren's primary operating subsidiaries are AmerenCIPS, AmerenUE and AmerenEnergy Generating Company, which are engaged principally in the generation, transmission, distribution and sale of electric energy, and the purchase, distribution, transportation and sale of natural gas. AmerenCIPS, a first-tier subsidiary, supplies electric and gas utility service to territories in central and southern Illinois. AmerenCIPS supplies electric service to about 325,000 customers and natural gas service to about 175,000 customers. AmerenUE, also a first tier subsidiary supplies electric and gas service in territories in Missouri and Illinois, including the greater St. Louis area. AmerenUE supplies electric service to about 1.1 million customers and natural gas service to about 125,000 customers.

Financial Summary
Ameren Corp., a holding Co. with two subsidiaries, Union Electric and CIPS, is engaged in the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity and the transmission and distribution of natural gas to customers in MO and IL. For the six months ended 6/01, revenues rose 18% to $2.08 billion. Net income before acct. change fell 9% to $160 million. Results reflect new contracts acquired and favorable weather conditions, offset by higher gas costs.
