Business Summary
GC Companies, Inc., through its subsidiaries, operates a motion picture exhibition circuit in the United States under the name General Cinema Theatres. The Company, through a joint venture, operates motion picture theatres in South America and also manages a pool of the Company's capital for investments. As of October 31, 2000, its joint venture operated seven theatre units with 70 screens in Argentina, six theatres with 50 screens in Chile, a theatre with 15 screens in Brazil and a joint venture with an eight-screen theatre in Uruguay. Through its investment operations, the Company invested in businesses that are unrelated to the Company's theatre business and the broader entertainment industry.

Financial Summary
GC Companies, Inc. operates motion picture theatres in the U.S. and South America, and also manages a pool of capital used for investments. For the six months ended 4/30/01, revenues decreased 16% to $148.3 million. Net loss before accounting change totaled $12.1 million, up from $4.1 million. Revenues reflect lower patronage due to the decrease in the number of theatres in operation. Net loss also reflects the inclusion of a $4.3 million charge for reorganization.
