Business Summary
Consolidated Edison, Inc. is the holding company for Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc. (Con Edison of New York) and Orange and Rockland Utilities, Inc. (O&R). Con Edison of New York provides electric service in all of New York City (except part of Queens) and most of Westchester County, an approximately 660 square mile service area with a population of more than 8 million. It also provides gas service in Manhattan, The Bronx and parts of Queens and Westchester, and steam service in part of Manhattan. O&R and its utility subsidiaries provide electric service in southeastern New York and in adjacent sections of New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania, an approximately 1,350 square mile service area. They also provide gas service in southeastern New York and Pennsylvania.

Financial Summary
Consolidated Edison, Inc. provides a wide range of energy-related products and services to customers in in New York, northern New Jersey and northeastern Pennsylvania. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues increased 15% to $5 billion. Net income applicable to Common increased 9% to $279.8 million. Revenues reflect increased electricity sales volume. Net income was offset by increased purchased power expenses and lower investment income.
