Peabody Energy Corp. is a private-sector coal company. The Company owns majority interests in 34 coal operations located throughout all major U.S. coal producing regions. Most of the Company's production in the western United States is low sulfur coal from the Powder River Basin. The Company is also expanding in related energy businesses that include coal trading, coalbed methane production, transportation-related services, third-party coal contract restructuring and participation in the development of coal-based generating plants.

Financial Summary
Peabody Energy Corp. is the largest private-sector coal company in the world, producing both low-sulfur and high-sulfur coal from properties located throughout the United States. For the three months ended 6/01, total revenues fell 2% to $657.3 million. Net income from continuing operations before extraordinary item totaled $9.9 million vs. a loss of $8.5 million. Results reflect lower sales in Australia due to sale of the Australian operations, offset by improved operating margins.
