Kindercare Learning Centers, Inc. is a for-profit provider of educational services and care to children primarily between the ages of six weeks and five years in the United States. Recently, KinderCare has taken steps to become a more broad-based education company that provides educational content and services to 0 to 18 year olds. In its early childhood education and care business, the Company operates two primary types of centers. KinderCare community centers, which comprise the vast majority of its centers, typically provide educational services and care to children between the ages of six weeks and 12 years. At its KinderCare At Work centers, the Company partners with employers to meet their individual needs for on-site/near-site early childhood education and care for the families of their employees. At July 28, 2000, the Company operated a total of 1,132 childcare centers and served approximately 111,000 children and their families.

Financial Summary
KinderCare Learning Centers provides proprietary child care centers and pre-school education services in 39 states and the United Kingdom. For the 40 weeks ended 3/9/01, operating revenues increased 7% to $551.4 million. Net income before accounting change decreased 27% to $8.9 million. Revenues reflect the opening of 28 new centers and tuition rate increases. Net income was offset by increased operating expenses as a result of the new centers.
