Business Summary
Transatlantic Holdings, Inc. through its wholly owned subsidiaries, TRC, Trans Re Zurich and Putnam Reinsurance Company, offers reinsurance capacity for a full range of property and casualty products on a treaty and facultative basis, directly and through brokers, to insurance and reinsurance companies, in both the domestic and international markets. The Company's principal lines of reinsurance include auto liability (including non-standard risks), other liability (including directors' and officers' liability and other professional liability), accident and health, medical malpractice, marine and aviation and surety and credit in the casualty lines and fire and allied lines in the property lines. Reinsurance is provided for most major lines of insurance on both excess-of-loss and pro rata bases.

Financial Summary
Transatlantic Holdings offers reinsurance capacity for a full range of property and casualty products on a treaty and facultative basis to insurance and reinsurance companies. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 8% to $987.5 million. Net income fell 16% to $90.3 million. Revenues reflect increases in treaty and facultative business in both domestic and international. Net income was offset by an increase in catastrophe losses.
