Business Summary
The Timken Company is a manufacturer of bearings and steel products. Timken's products are divided into two industry segments, anti-friction bearings and steel. Anti-friction bearings constitute Timken's principal industry product, and the tapered roller bearing made by Timken is its principal product in the anti-friction industry segment. Steel products include steels of low and intermediate alloy, vacuum-processed alloys, tool steel and some carbon grades. These are available in a wide range of solid and tubular sections with a variety of finishes.

Financial Summary
TKR is engaged in the manufacturing of anti-friction bearings (tapered roller bearing, cylindrical, spherical, straight and ball bearing) and steel products (intermediate and low alloy, vacuum-processed alloys, tool steel and some carbon grades). For the six months ended 6/30/01, net sales fell 6% to $1.30 billion. Net loss totaled $12.4 million, vs. income of $37.3 million. Results weak global automotive and industrial demand, and $24.8 million in restructuring and impairment related charges.
