Business Summary
TransCanada PipeLines Ltd. is a North American energy company focused on natural gas transmission and power services. The Company's network of approximately 38,000 kilometers of pipeline transports the majority of western Canada's natural gas production to markets in Canada and the United States. TransCanada owns or controls approximately 1,900 megawatts of power. The Company is also engaged in the Gas Marketing business, but, on May 8, 2001, it announced plans to divest the business in order to focus on its core natural gas transmission and power business in Canada and the northern tier of the United States.

Financial Summary
TRP transmits, markets and processes energy in North America, and around the world. Its pipeline system transports natural gas and crude oil. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 29% to C$2.85 billion. Net income before US GAAP from continuing operations and applicable to Common rose 13% to C$340 million. Revenues reflect an increase in the transmission and gas marketing segments. Earnings were partially offset by the absence of a C$26 million gain on sale of an asset.
