Business Summary
Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. operates a metal processing and recycling business and, through its Cascade Steel Rolling Mills, Inc. subsidiary, a mini-mill steel manufacturing business. The Company's wholly owned recycling facilities are located in Alaska, Washington, Oregon, California and Nevada. Additionally, through joint ventures, the Company participates in the management of additional metals processing and recycling businesses in Arizona, California, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maine, Massachusetts, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, Texas and Utah.

Financial Summary
SCHN collects, processes and recycles metals, and manufactures finished steel products through a metal recycling business and a technologically advanced steel mini mill. For the nine months ended 5/31/01, revenues fell 6% to $227.2 million. Net income fell 39% to $4.9 million. Revenues reflect decreased steel shipments due to increased market supply of lower cost steel imports and other factors. Net income also reflects lower margins and a higher income tax rate.
