Business Summary
A. Schulman, Inc. is engaged in the sale of plastic resins and compounds that are used as raw materials by its customers. A. Schulman combines basic resins purchased from plastic resin producers and, through mixing and extrusion processes, introduces additives that provide color, stabilizers, flame-retardants or other enhancements that may be required by a customer. These compounds are formulated in the Company's laboratories, and are manufactured in the Company's 14 plastics compounding plants in North America, Europe and Asia. Customers for the Company's plastic compounds include manufacturers, custom molders and extruders of a wide variety of plastic products and parts.. The Company's manufacturing can be classified into four product families: color and additive concentrates; engineered compounds; polyolefins; and polyvinyl chloride (PVC).

Financial Summary
A. Schulman is an international supplier of plastic compounds and resins. These products are used by consumers as raw materials in their manufacturing operations. For the nine months ended 5/31/01, revenues fell 7% to $749.5 million. Net income applicable to Com. fell 77% to $7.1 million. Revenues suffered from the adverse translation effect of foreign currencies which reduced sales by $46.9 million. Net income also reflects $4.6 million in charges related to the plant closure in Akron.
