The banking subsidiaries are principally engaged in consumer, commercial, real estate and agricultural lending and retail deposit activities. The Company also has subsidiaries that provide merchant credit card processing and other services. The Company consists of the parent company, which is an interstate financial holding company, and its consolidated subsidiaries. First National continues to make investments in data processing technology for its own data processing needs, and to provide various data processing services for unaffiliated parties. The services provided include automated clearinghouse transactions, merchant credit card processing and check processing.

Financial Summary
First National of Nebraska is a bank holding company for 12 subsidiary banks operating in Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and South Dakota. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose 2% to $405.8 million. Net interest income after loan loss provision fell 12% to $146.2 million. Net income fell 6% to $40.2 million. Results reflect increased interest paid on deposits and a higher provision for loan losses, partially offset by higher processing income.
