Business Summary
Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. provides its customers with content distribution networks, broadband transmission networks, digital interactive subscriber systems and worldwide customer service and support. The Company has evolved from a manufacturer of electronic test equipment for antennas and electronics for the cable industry to a producer of a wide variety of products for terrestrial and satellite communications networks, including digital video, voice and data communications products. During fiscal 2000, the Company operated primarily in two reportable business segments: Broadband and Satellite. The Broadband segment consists of subscriber and transmission systems, and the Satellite segment consisted of satellite network and satellite television network systems. In April 2000, ViaSat, Inc. acquired the Company's satellite network business. The Company retained its satellite television network business, which provides the content distribution networks.

Scientific-Atlanta, Inc. provides its customers with the products and services for advanced communications networks which deliver voice, data and video. For the fiscal year ended 6/29/01, sales increased 46% to $2.51 billion. Net income totalled $333.7 million, up from $155.8 million. Revenues reflect strong demand for digital set top products. Earnings reflect manufacturing efficiencies, continuing negotiated procurement savings and a change in the product mix.
