Business Summary
Beverly Enterprises is comprised principally of providing healthcare services, including the operation of nursing facilities, assisted-living centers, hospice and home care centers, outpatient therapy clinics and rehabilitation therapy services. At February 28, 2001, the Company operated 531 nursing facilities with 59,580 licensed beds. The Company's nursing facilities are located in 29 states and the District of Columbia, and range in capacity from 20 to 355 beds. The Company also operated 34 assisted-living centers containing 1,132 units, 165 outpatient therapy clinics and 58 hospice and home care centers.

Financial Summary
BEV provides healthcare services, including nursing facilities, rehabilitation therapy services, assisted living centers, home care centers and outpatient clinics. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total revenues rose 3% to $1.34 billion. Net loss totaled $46.7 million vs. an income of $14.8 million. Revenues reflect an increase in service rates. Net loss reflects $115.5 million in charges related to asset impairments, workforce reductions and other unusual items.
