Pulitzer Inc. is engaged in newspaper publishing and related new media businesses. Its newspaper operations include two major metropolitan dailies, the Post-Dispatch, serving the greater St. Louis metropolitan area and the Arizona Daily Star, serving the Tucson metropolitan area. Both daily newspapers have weekly total market coverage sections that provide advertisers with market saturation and both offer alternative delivery systems that provide advertisers with either targeted or total market coverage. Each of these publications also operates electronic news, information and communication Websites on the Internet. In addition to its metropolitan dailies, the Company's wholly owned subsidiary, Pulitzer Newspapers, Inc., publishes 13 dailies that serve markets in the Midwest, Southwest and West, as well as a number of weekly and bi-weekly publications.

Financial Summary
Pulitzer Inc. is engaged in newspaper publishing and related new media activities. The Company's newspaper operations include the St. Louis Post-Dispatch and the Arizona Daily Star, as well as other smaller community newspapers. For the six months ended 7/1/01, total revenues rose 12% to $211.2 million. Net income fell 71% to $6.1 million. Results reflect the acquisitions of Suburban Journals and PNI, offset by higher newsprint, personnel and interest expenses.
