Business Summary
The Rouse Company, through its subsidiaries, affiliates and non-REIT subsidiaries, is engaged or has a material financial interest in the ownership, management, acquisition and development of income-producing and other real estate in the United States, including retail centers, office buildings, mixed-use projects and village centers. The Company is also engaged in the development and sale of land, primarily in Columbia, Maryland, and the Las Vegas, Nevada, metropolitan area for residential, commercial and industrial uses. Non-REIT subsidiaries are companies in which the Company holds substantially all of the financial interest, but in which The Rouse Company Incentive Compensation Statutory Trust (the Trust), an entity that is neither owned nor controlled by the Company, owns 91% of the voting stock.

Financial Summary
The Rouse Company operates more than 250 properties encompassing office, retail, research and development, and industrial space in 22 states. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 64% to $499.0 million. Net income applicable to Common before extra items and acct. change fell 13% to $51.8 million. Results reflect higher residential sales at the Summerlin, NV development community and the completion of retail project expansions, offset by higher operating and depreciation costs.
