Business Summary
Howell Corporation and its subsidiaries are engaged in the exploration, production, acquisition and development of oil and gas properties. These operations are conducted in the United States. The Company's oil and gas exploration and production activities are conducted by Howell Petroleum Corporation (HPC), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company, and are concentrated in Wyoming and along the Gulf Coast, both onshore and offshore. The Company's major producing properties include Salt Creek, Elk Basin and Main Pass 64. Substantially all of its oil and natural gas production is sold on the spot market or pursuant to contracts priced according to the spot market.

Financial Summary
HWL and its subsidiaries are engaged in the exploration, production, acquisition, and development of oil and gas properties in the US. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues increased 24% to $45.8 million. Net income applicable to Common increased 39% to $11.1 million. Revenues reflect increases in the average oil and gas prices, and increased production. Earnings also reflect decreased interest expenses.
