Business Summary
Union Pacific Corporation primarily provides rail transportation. The Company's rail segment includes the operations of its wholly owned subsidiary, Union Pacific Railroad Company (UPRR), and UPRR's subsidiaries and rail affiliates (collectively, the Railroad). The Company has other operations including a trucking product line, Overnite Transportation Company, as well as other product lines that include the corporate holding company (which largely supports the Railroad), Fenix LLC and affiliated technology companies, and self-insurance activities. The Company's customers include Eastman Chemical, Midwest Generation, Thrall Car Manufacturing, DaimlerChrysler and Toyota.

Financial Summary
UNP operates through subsidiaries in the areas of rail transportation (Union Pacific Railroad Co. and Southern Pacific Rail Corp.) and trucking (Overnite Transportation Company). For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 1% to $5.94 billion. Net income fell 1% to $424 million. Revenues reflect higher Energy and Agricultural commodity sales at the Railroad and higher sales at Overnite. Lower income reflects increased fuel prices and higher rent costs.
