The Bank of New York Company, Inc. is the bank holding company of The Bank of New York (BNY), a New York chartered banking corporation. BNY was founded in 1784 by Alexander Hamilton and is the United States' oldest bank. With over $73 billion in total assets as of March 31, 2001, the Company provides a complete range of banking and other financial services to corporations and individuals worldwide through its basic businesses. The Company's basic businesses are Securities Servicing and Global Payment Services, Corporate Banking, BNY Asset Management and Private Client Services, Retail Banking, and Global Market Services.

Financial Summary
BK is a holding company for The Bank of New York, offering securities and cash processing, trust, investment management, private and corporate banking and other services. For six months ended 6/01, interest income decreased 9% to $1.96 billion. Net interest income after loan loss provision decreased 2% to $851 million. Net income applicable to Com. rose 11% to $769 million. Results reflect a decrease in loans, offset by increased securities servicing fees.
