Business Summary
Mississippi Valley Bancshares, Inc., which is a multi-bank holding company, and its wholly owned subsidiaries, Southwest Bank of St. Louis (the Missouri Bank), Southwest Bank, Belleville, (the Illinois Bank) and Southwest Bank of Phoenix, (the Arizona Bank), are engaged primarily in commercial lending. Southwest Bank of St. Louis has been nationally recognized for its frequent practice of reducing its prime interest rate in advance of industry wide prime rate cuts. The Arizona Bank, which is located in Phoenix, Arizona, was a new charter. Since acquiring the Missouri Bank, the Company has expanded its loan portfolio from $57 million to $1.373 billion at December 31, 2000. The Company formed Mississippi Valley Capital Company, a venture capital subsidiary and natural extension of its strong commercial lending activities.

Financial Summary
MVBI is the holding company for the Southwest Bank of St. Louis and Southwest Bank, Belleville. For the six months ended 6/30/01, interest income increased 15% to $75.1 million. Net interest income after loan loss provision increased 2% to $28.2 million. Net income increased 15% to $13.2 million. Net interest income reflects an increase in interest earning assets, partially offset by interest costs. Net income reflects an increase in realized gains on securities.
