Financial Summary
PL is an insurance holding co., whose subsidiaries provide financial services through the production, distribution, and administration of insurance and investment products. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 10% to $972.8 million. Net income before accounting change fell 12% to $72.8 million. Revenues reflect higher investment income due to an increase in the average amount of invested assets. Net income was offset by higher benefit expenses.
