The Dress Barn, Inc. operates a national chain of specialty stores offering in-season, moderate to better quality career and casual fashion to the working woman at value prices. The Company operates primarily combination Dress Barn/Dress Barn Woman stores (Combo Stores), which carry both Dress Barn and larger-sized Dress Barn Woman merchandise, as well as freestanding Dress Barn and Dress Barn Woman stores. As of October 28, 2000, the Company operated 715 stores in 43 states and the District of Columbia, consisting of 415 Combo Stores, 241 Dress Barn stores and 59 Dress Barn Woman stores. The stores carries a broad assortment of career wear, including dresses, sweaters and other knitwear, separates, suits, as well as casual wear items, that are carefully edited to suit the lifestyle needs of its target customer. During fiscal 2000, the Company launched both its mail-order catalog and its Internet site's e-commerce capability, giving the Company multiple channels of distribution.

The Dress Barn, Inc. operates a national chain of 715 women's value priced specialty apparel stores offering career and casual fashions to working woman. For the 39 weeks ended 4/28/01, revenues increased 8% to $517.7 million. Net income increased 12% to $27.1 million. Revenues reflect an increase in comparable store sales. Earnings also reflect increased interest income, cost controls, and productivity improvements.
