CenturyTel, Inc. is a regional integrated communications company engaged primarily in providing local exchange telephone services and wireless communications services. Through its operating telephone subsidiaries, the Company provides services to predominately rural, suburban and small urban markets in 21 states, with the largest customer bases located in Wisconsin, Arkansas, Washington, Missouri, Michigan, Louisiana and Colorado. The Company's wireless customers, totaling more than 751,000 as of December 31, 2000, are located in Michigan, Louisiana, Wisconsin, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas. CenturyTel also provides long distance, Internet access, competitive local exchange carrier, broadband data, security monitoring and other communications and business information services in certain local and regional markets. All of the Company's operations are conducted within the continental United States.

Financial Summary
Centurytel is a regional diversified communications company engaged primarily in providing local exchange telephone services and wireless telephone communications services. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues rose 24% to $1.03 billion. Net income applicable to Com. rose 88% to $200.8 million. Revenues reflect the acquisition of Verizon properties. Earnings also benefitted from the non-recurring gain associated with the sales of 30 PCS licenses to Leap.
