Business Summary
Pitney Bowes Inc. and its subsidiaries operate in three segments, Global Mailing, Enterprise Solutions and Capital Services. Global Mailing includes worldwide revenues from the rental of postage meters and the sale, rental and financing of mailing equipment. The Company's Enterprise Solutions business receives revenues from facilities management contracts for advanced mailing, reprographic, document management and other services, as well as revenues from the sale, service and financing of high-speed, software-enabled production mail systems, sortation equipment, incoming mail systems, electronic statement, billing and payment solutions and mailing software. Capital Services provides large-ticket financing and fee-based programs, covering a broad range of products and other financial services. The Company operates both in and outside of the United States.

Financial Summary
Pitney Bowes and its subsidiaries operate in three primary areas: Mailing and Integrated Logistics, Office Solutions, and Financial Services. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total revenues increased 2% to $1.99 billion. Net income applicable to Common from continuing operations before accounting change increased 4% to $291.7 million. Revenues reflect volume increases. Net income reflects a $362.2 million gain from a lawsuit settlement with Hewlett-Packard Company.
