Business Summary
American Electric Power Company, Inc. is a public utility holding company, which owns, directly or indirectly, all of the outstanding common stock of its domestic electric utility subsidiaries and varying percentages of other subsidiaries. Substantially all of the operating revenues of AEP and its subsidiaries are derived from the furnishing of electric service. The service area of AEP's domestic electric utility subsidiaries covers portions of the states of Arkansas, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia. The electric utility subsidiaries of AEP, which do business as American Electric Power, have traditionally provided electric service, consisting of generation, transmission and distribution, on an integrated basis to their retail customers.

Financial Summary
American Electric Power is a public utility holding company engaged in the generation, purchase, transmission and distribution of electric power. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues totaled $28.69 billion, up from $14.25 billion. Net income before acct. change totaled $546 million, up from $122 million. Revenues reflect increased wholesale electricity sales and the return of the Cook Nuclear Plant to service. Net income also reflects a reduction of $149 million in merger related costs.
