Business Summary
Sterling Chemicals Holdings Inc., through its subsidiaries, manufactures seven commodity petrochemicals. The Company also operates a disodium iminodiacetic acid (DSIDA) plant at its Texas City facility that is owned by Monsanto. The Company also manufactures chemicals for use primarily in the pulp and paper industry and acrylic fibers. The Company also produces styrene, acrylonitrile, acetic acid, plasticizers, methanol, tertiary butylamine (TBA) and sodium cyanide. The Company generally sells its petrochemicals products to customers for use in the manufacture of other chemicals and products. The Company produces regular textile fibers, specialty textile fibers, and technical fibers at its acrylic fibers facility, as well as licensing its acrylic fibers manufacturing technology to producers worldwide. In July 2001, the Company and most of its United States subsidiaries filed voluntary petitions for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the United States Bankruptcy Code.

Financial Summary
STXX manufactures seven commodity petrochemicals and chemicals for use primarily in the pulp and paper industry. For the six months ended 3/31/01, revenues fell 13% to $443.8 million. Net loss applicable to Common totaled $84.8 million, up from $8.5 million. Revenues reflect lower styrene sales prices and sales volumes due to a slowdown in general worldwide economic activity. Higher loss reflects weaker styrene margins due to increases in raw material and energy costs.
