West Coast Bancorp is a registered bank holding company for its primary subsidiary, which is the Sunwest Bank (Sunwest). Sunwest offers a wide range of deposit instruments. These include personal and business checking and savings accounts, including interest-bearing negotiable order of withdrawal (NOW) accounts, Super NOW accounts and money market accounts, time deposits and individual retirement accounts. Sunwest also engages in a full complement of lending activities, including commercial, consumer installment and real estate loans. For the six months ended 6/30/01, total interest income rose less than 1% to $8.3 million. Net interest income after loan loss prov. rose less than 1% to $6 million. Net income fell 21% to $604 thousand. Net interest income reflects increased interest earning assets, and lower interest paid on borrowings. Earnings reflect higher salaries and benefits expenses.
