General Motors Corporation has two operating segments, Automotive, Communications Services and Other Operations, which consists of the design, manufacturing, and marketing of cars, trucks, locomotives, and heavy-duty transmissions and related parts and accessories, as well as the operations of Hughes Electronics Corporation; and Financing and Insurance Operations, consisting primarily of General Motors Acceptance Corporation, which provides a broad range of financial services, including consumer vehicle financing, full-service leasing and fleet leasing, dealer financing, car and truck extended service contracts, residential and commercial mortgage services, vehicle and homeowners' insurance, and asset-based lending.

Financial Summary
General Motors Corp. designs, manufactures and markets automobiles, trucks and related parts, designs and manufactures locomotives and heavy-duty transmissions, and operates a financial services and insurance company. For the six months ended 6/30/01, revenues fell 7% to $88.84 billion. Net income applicable to Common fell 75% to $870 million. Results reflect moderating industry demand, a highly competitive pricing environment and losses from the European operations.
