Business Summary
News Communications, Inc., formed in 1986, has been primarily engaged, through its subsidiaries, in the publication and distribution of advertiser supported, community oriented newspapers and related targeted audience publications. The Company publishes 18 weekly newspapers through six offices. The community newspapers are directed at specific geographic communities and, for the most part, are distributed free of charge to selected residences and business establishments in those communities. Each publication focuses on local news, entertainment, politics, social issues, lifestyle, culture and arts of particular interest to the group of communities at which it is directed. Some of the papers publish different editions, with variations in editorial content and advertising that are distributed to each community in the targeted group. The Company's principal source of its revenues is the sale of advertising space in its publications.

Financial Summary
News Communications, Inc. publishes and distributes advertiser-supported, community-oriented newspapers and related targeted audience publications. The Company publishes 18 weekly newspapers through six offices. For the three months ended 3/31/01, revenues fell 15% to $3.3 million. Net loss rose 66% to $1.4 million. Revenues reflect the softness in the advertising market. Higher loss also reflects a $400 thousand in asset impairment charge.
