PROFILE Locating oil and gas requires a little latitude, so Meridian Resource uses 3-D seismic technology to improve its success rate. The exploration and development company focuses on the Gulf Coast and Gulf of Mexico; it has proved reserves of 306 billion cu. ft. of natural gas equivalent, about 56% of which is natural gas. Meridian Resource moved into the Gulf when it bought Cairn Energy USA and has beefed up its Gulf Coast holdings by buying almost all of Shell Oil's southern Louisiana exploration properties.
