PROFILE Premcor, all decked out in its refineries, has left its retail operations behind. One of the largest independent oil refiners in the US, Premcor (formerly Clark USA) produces gasoline, diesel, and aviation fuel. It owns a refinery in Texas, two in Illinois, and one in Ohio; the four have the combined capacity to produce more than 547,000 barrels of crude oil per day. An Apollo Management affiliate has purchased Premcor's marketing operations -- about 700 company-run gas station/convenience stores, 200 franchised sites, and the Clark brand name. The company still markets unbranded gasoline and other petroleum products wholesale. Blackstone Group controls 80% of Premcor; Occidental Petroleum, about 19%.  COMPETITION BP p.l.c.
