The weight of all the industrial and defense electronics made by Racal Electronics could sink one of the battleships its products help defend. A subsidiary of French electronics giant Thomson-CSF, Racal's operations include defense electronics such as avionics, command and control systems, radar, and radio and communications equipment; industrial electronics, including communications recording equipment, point-of-sale terminals, and secure payment systems; and transportation services, primarily infrastructure and information systems support for the British rail system. Thomson-CSF is integrating its UK-based businesses with those of Racal to gain greater access to UK defense contracts.
