UIS, Inc.
 PROFILE
As the maker of those little heart-shaped candies with tiny messages of love, UIS is probably better known for its somewhat tougher products, namely its car parts. UIS' subsidiaries include Champion Laboratories (oil and fuel filters), Neapco (transmission parts), Wells Manufacturing (ignition and electrical components), Pioneer (auto specialty supplier). Other operations include New England Confectionery (Sweethearts, Necco wafers, Clark Bar) and Hurd Millwork (window and patio doors). Founder Harry Lebensfeld started the company in 1945 with the purchase of an Indiana desk maker. UIS is owned by a trust for Lebensfeld's only child (who is married to EVP Richard Pasculano) and her children.
