Geobra Brandstaetter, which operates as Playmobil, molds plastic into popular playthings. Germany's largest toy maker, the company makes plastic figures (about three inches tall) with moveable heads, arms, hands, and legs in various dress. (You'll find construction workers, pirates, farmers, and nurses, among others.) It also makes accessories such as vehicles, animals, dollhouses and other buildings; licenses it name for products such as books and CD-ROMs; and runs theme parks in France, Germany, Greece, and the US. Its toys are sold around the world. Managing Director Horst Brandstaetter owns the firm, which traces its roots to a cashbox lining and lock maker started by Horst's grandfather in 1876.
