Oil and gas exploration and production company Hallwood Energy comes from a long line of Hallwood companies. Originally the general partner of Hallwood Energy Partners (HEP), the old Hallwood Energy was merged into The Hallwood Group, a diversified holding company, in 1996. The new Hallwood Energy consolidates two of its Hallwood siblings, HEP and HEP's 46%-owned Hallwood Consolidated Resources, and has acquired all of Hallwood Group's energy holdings. Hallwood Energy has proved reserves of 182.8 billion cu. ft. of natural gas and 8.8 million barrels of oil. It operates in the Gulf Coast, Permian Basin, and Rocky Mountain regions. The company was acquired by Pure Resources in 2001.
