The firm specializes in mozzarella, but it also makes other specialty cheeses and by-products (lactose, whey protein) for sale to retail, food service, and industrial customers. Saputo also distributes imported cheeses and other products in Canada. The company tripled in size when it bought Stella Foods (cheeses) and expanded further with its purchases of Culinar (snack cakes) and Dairyworld Foods (fluid and solid dairy products). With plants on both sides of the US-Canada border, Saputo hopes to sidestep tariffs and trade barriers.
