PROFILE |

I scream, you scream, we all scream for Stewart's ice cream, especially if we live in upstate New York or Vermont, home to more than 300 Stewart's Shops. Stewart's Shops (formerly known as Stewart's Ice Cream Company) runs a chain of convenience stores selling some 3,000 different products, including dairy items, groceries, food to go, beer, gasoline, and, of course, ice cream. Stewart's makes its own ice cream -- more than 50 flavors both hand-dipped and packaged -- and dairy products, and it has several private-label products. It also sells national brands. Stewart's is owned by the founding Dake family and sold its first ice cream in 1921, founded a dairy in 1935, and invented the "make-your-own sundae" in 1948.
