Gyrus Group makes instruments used in minimally invasive surgeries. Using its PlasmaKinetic technology, in which radio frequencies vaporize and irrigate tissue or seal blood vessels, the firm makes systems used in arthroscopic, gynecologic, and urologic surgeries. Its FDA-approved Plasma-Sect device treats bladder cancer and enlarged prostates. Gyrus Group has marketing agreements with such firms as Gynecare and Mitek Products, a unit of Johnson & Johnson. The acquisitive company bought US surgical instruments maker Everest Medical, in addition to Somnus Medical Technologies and the ear, nose, and throat business of Smith & Nephew.
