PROFILE New China Homes is the holding company for majority-owned subsidiary Shanghai Chingchu Property Development, which develops planned residential communities for middle-income families in China. Taking advantage of China's nascent land-ownership reforms, the company is developing its first project, California Gardens, near Shanghai. When finished, the project will include nearly 4,500 homes, 1,300 apartments, several schools, a medical clinic, and retail shopping. New China Homes has already sold more than 1,100 homes. The company is planning similar projects in Beijing and other major Chinese cities.
