PROFILE |
 |
Lost Arrow is at the peak of outdoor apparel marketing, selling rugged clothing and accessories to mountain climbers, skiers, and other extreme sports lovers willing to pay extra for the Patagonia brand name. It sells its products through specialty retailers, a catalog, a Web site, and about 30 of its own stores in the Americas, Australia, Europe, and Japan. Lost Arrow founder Yvon Chouinard, a mountain climber, started the business in 1957 selling steel climbing tools that he smithed. As concerned with the environment as with the bottom line, Lost Arrow donates 1% of sales to green causes and offers its employees childcare, yoga classes, and other perks. Chouinard and his wife, Malinda, own the company.
