PROFILE |
 |
Growth through acquisitions is a classic business strategy, and Classic Communications is no stranger to it. Classic has acquired more than 20 systems in rural areas of 10 states in the US since its 1992 founding. But the buying spree and the costs of upgrading these smaller systems to provide digital cable and Internet access has taken its toll. These high costs and increased competition from direct-broadcast satellite operators brought Classic close to default, forcing it to undergo management changes, streamline operations, and consider selling some systems. Classic systems pass more than 700,000 households, and it has about 375,000 basic subscribers. Brera Classic holds a 79% voting control of the company.
