Cable Satisfaction International (Csii) is placing all its "escudos" on Portugal. The Canada-based builder and operator of hybrid fiber coaxial (HFC) networks is developing a national fiber-optic backbone in the peninsular country. Its subsidiary, Cabovisão - Televisão por Cabo (#2 cable TV operator behind Portugal Telecom), has about 127,000 basic and 27,000 pay-TV subscribers and offers both Internet access (16,000 subscribers) and residential phone services over cable (the IPhone brand with 14,000 customers). Csii's Tech4Cable subsidiary is developing a prepaid smart card system to provide cable TV customers with more choice in broadcasting services. Major shareholders include CEO Guy LaFlamme.
