PROFILE |
 |
With more hops than a jumping bean, CINTRA is a holding company that controls Mexico's two principal airlines, AeroMéxico and Mexicana. Formed in 1995 by creditors of the airlines, CINTRA also owns two regional carriers, an airfreight handler, ground support services, and an engine maintenance company. CINTRA's fleet consists of more than 130 jets and about 40 turboprops. AeroMéxico, which serves 35 domestic and 17 international destinations, has formed the SkyTeam marketing alliance with Delta, Air France, and Korean Air Lines, although Mexicana is a member of rival Star Alliance. Mexicana flies to 27 domestic and 18 international locations. The Mexican government, which owns 66% of CINTRA, plans to sell its stake.
