PROFILE |
 |
The ancient ties that bind Greece to the sea are renewed each time an Anangel-American Shipholdings vessel takes to the oceans. Its ships travel primarily to the Far East, carrying grain, iron ore, coking coals, and other commodities. Shipments to Europe make up half of the company's sales. Anangel-American operates 20 dry-cargo vessels, including two multipurpose, seven handysize, seven panamax, and five capesize vessels that have a total cargo capacity of more than 1.6 million deadweight tons. Flying the Greek flag, the ships have capacities ranging from 23,000 to 172,000 deadweight tons. Through investment companies, chairman John Angelicoussis and his family own 77% of Anangel-American.
